Alright, so my Western Digital MyBook finally decided to stop mounting to either my iMac or my Macbook. I removed the hard drive and might just put it in a new enclosure, but I want a new one anyways. So, now I'm in the market for a new hard drive. Here are the companies I'm leaning towards, followed by links to the specific hd. Let me know any opinions, if any, you have on the companies and/or any of the specific models. The Seagate is intriguing because it has a 5 year warranty. The G-Tech is 3 years, and the LaCie's are 2 years. The LaCie 1TB is a great deal on Amazon. Anyways, let me know any opinions or experiences you have with any of these. Thanks! Imo they are worth the extra money. I would not go Seagate. Black with a blue light undernieth. Everywhere I have worked has used lacie and have no trouble with em. Wd has the worst service ever. They basiclly tell you to F off. I didn't even leave it pluged in all the time and it still croaked. I've read that LaCie has awful customer service as well. I'm trying to find out more about Seagate and the G-Tech which is built for Macs. We need to get a lot of input on this topic because it's relevant to anyone looking into externals. The majority of hard drive failure is caused by overheating, so I'm just looking for something really well ventilated. The aluminum ridged ones made by G-Tech and LaCie are nice, but I'm still looking into the Seagate one. This is a difficult decision for me haha. I hate hard drives dying after a year.
