It is so often hard to separate the two because people judge the patrons of a religion rather than the actual belief. I was raised very similar to heavyprints in a very religious home and went to church 3 times a week til i was about 13 or 14. I reached high school and was at a youth group meeting and the leader said that an a friend of the church had killed 5 people (2 kids under 12) because he had a few mental problems and went bizerk. Now the leader told me that he would get into heaven because he repented his sins and strongly held his faith in god. I raised my hand and asked why would someone go to heaven for killing people? That is not what god wanted for us and i find it horrible that he gets in to heaven. The members in the room all looked at me and said a bunch of means things to me and how i just "didn't get it" In my head i thought well i think i DO GET IT and you guys don't. From that day on I knew I could never believe again. To many bad things support the things that I had believed in so strongly. Why should a man that intentionally killed 5 people and took the lives of 2 kids should be in the sacred place that i lived my life to get to? That sounds more like a place i dont want to be. Some examples of these as I am sure you are well aware of is the beaks of the finch changing over time to adapt to the type of grubs it hunts. Other adaptations are in humans. Our appendix is shrinking every generation because we do not need it to digest uncooked meat. These I do accept. But what Darwin called evolution, the changing of one species into another, has not been proven. If it had, there would be transitory creatures or at least evidence of these creatures. As of now there is not. I believe in adaptation, but completely changing from one creature to another is where I have difficulties.
