My computer is playing tricks on me! Last week my hardrive(71.2 gb) had about 41.5 gb worth of memory left... now its only has 3.25gbs left! I don't know what the heck is going on but i swear i havn't downloaded, installed or transfered any huge files that would take up that much space. At one point in xmas, it only had 205 mb left haha. Anyone know why would this be happening? Search for all files created or modified in the last week. You can expect to find a lot but you might see something that obviously looks wrong, like 5000 new files in one folder, something like that. You can also search the entire drive for any files larger than 3MB (or whatever) and see what you find. Do you have backup software? Some backup software will create a temp file of everything it will back up and that huge file is supposed to be deleted after it finishes but if something goes wrong it just sits there until the next backup when it makes another. Some viruses will just replicate themselves until your drive is full. Formatting will do that for you.. But if you're not confident haha.. If you own a XP CD it's pretty straight forward.. put the CD in, reboot your machine and follow the prompts on the scary blue screen. If you don't, not so easy. Mainly because it's not possible without one.
