I’ve noticed a lot of t-shirt blanks for photoshop comps and I was wondering if anybody has a source of those blanks. Do you photo shoot them yourself or get’em from other brands? Then hit it up with the clone tool hehe.

I use my own. Vector masks for the win.

Nice one Reilly! Checked your shirts and saw you were part of the DBH robot shirt! Damn congrats bro I’m still thinking of getting one now that they’ve reprinted it.

You’re right sittingduck. I’m probably just being too lazy to go about it. hehe

Reilly – those are straight class.
on a related note, it’s always really annoying when people use the same American Apparel model shots for their shirt mock-ups – ummm, let’s see, Asian girl with big glasses, and skinny dude with a beard and hands in his pockets. Maybe there’s like one other one people use a lot.

It’s funny you mentioned this cuz i’ve been guilty of this myself haha.

Taking photos is probably the west way to go about it.
I’ve noticed that a lot of shirt comps might be using these abercrombie and fitch shirts for comp purposes—http://downtownrivals.com/content/design/cori_shirt2.jpg you’ll notice it in the label.
I think it’d be cool too if AA or those other blank companies would provide hi-resolution images for comp purposes. Just as another way to promote their shirts you know.

I’m working on a project and might release some comp shots for general use. We shall see.

I am tired of using a template from DeviantArt… I think I am gonna borrow an SLR and take some shots. The tee submissions with real tees look so jazzy. I want it!
mitchbones said almost 3 years ago
Dumb question, how do make it look realistic when you paste the vector? As in make all the folds show up
collisiontheory said almost 3 years ago
in photoshop, you gotta play around with blending options and/or layer options like multiply, soft light, etc.

Here’s how I change the color of the shirt. There’s probably some better way that I haven’t taken the time to learn though.

1. Origional
2. Vector mask
3. Desaturated copy of the shirt.
4. Layers from top to bottom: Desaturated shirt, Vector mask, Origional.
Does that make any sense?
mitchbones said almost 3 years ago
Sort of, thanks a lot bro!
collisiontheory said almost 3 years ago
Here’s how I do it.

You can experiment with the sliders on the right as well especially for lighter colored shirts.

I was just messing around with your quick tutorial and I cant get it to work? It doesnt really fade at all... what am I doing wrong?
njonas said over 2 years ago
I usually just use the multiply blending mode, which only takes the dark shades of the design, assuming there are no whites...
collisiontheory said over 2 years ago
Awesome try it out and post your shirts. Use the right slider if its on a white shirt.

hey just a quick question might sound silly and i feel like i should know this but changing the color of the blank_shirt.psd file, everytime i go to adjustments and color and mess around with that doesnt come out proper at all.. any tips would help thanks..

LiviuMatei said over 2 years ago
use overlay-softlight, etc layer settings, depending on the mock ups color and the colors of the design. thats the fastest blending.
also, i use the color overlay or the ctr+u for color changes. mess with the settings until you are happy. beware of saturation:)
AND THIS IS WHY EMPTEES WANTS TO HAVE A RESOURCES SECTION! BRING IT!
Geoff May said over 2 years ago
I just take the white shirt layer, copy it, desaturate it and set it to multiply and then make that the topmost layer. Then just make sure your art is under that layer and above the shirt layer. Then just use color overlay for the shirt color.

This would be a great one for the new Resourses section!

New layer, add in the color you want it to be. Set the layer on lighten or screen, probably. May have to play with the opacity. I imagine thatd do the trick.
Reilly said over 2 years ago
Mine up there is a perfect way to get a black shirt. In fact thats what I did.
