I'm too tired to make a coherent list or anything, but evil dead 2 and lost boys are in there somewhere, along with brainscan. Big ups for including that one, Kyle, I really feel like it's an under-appreciated gem.

skull with hair said 5 months ago
your entire list makes me want to puke in my soup.
scapyyy said 5 months ago
yeah i put american psycho cause i saw you had they live! and i thought they both could have fell under the same catergory as horror/comedy.
and idk i was into land of the dead. but hey thats just me. i was also into diary of the dead, so idk i guess its just your taste.
and yeah the original saw is a classic, but the last couple are just extending the story, but i think its toooooo played out.
how so?
Purebuttons said 5 months ago

a killer wombat said 5 months ago
I know its not the greatest horror movie of all time but House of a 1,000 corpses. That movie has so much tension and disturbing imagery i was physically and emotionally drained at the end of it. Like the scene where he has the gun to the guys head and the happy music is playing and slowly zooming out... I swear i didn't breath for 2 minutes waiting for that trigger... or when rob zombies wife was stabbing the chick in the bunny outfit and busting up laughing.

I just watched Christine last night. Thanks a lot EZ for recommending it, I thought it was really good. I don't think I've enjoyed a horror movie that much.
Shitters.
manos said 4 months ago
Christine is such a classic. Haven't watched it for ages. Should arrange it one of these nights - The scene with the dude getting crashed in that tiny alley by the car is the most vivid one I got from the entire movie.

My wife and I used to head up to the Sundance Film festival every year and we were privy to see the premier of a a little movie called the Blair Witch Project. We had never heard of the movie, the internet sites, the discovery channel special - nothing. I remember the director doing a little intro in the beginning talking about how they had found these tapes and provided minimal editing. If you can imagine watching that movie and really believing what you are seeing is real then you can understand how completly freaked out we were and frankly a little pissed off a director would show this - we really thought we had just seen a snuf film (Sundance can have some whacked out movies, and we have walked out on a few). After the movie stopped I just remember how quit the theatre was, no clapping no nothing and everyone just got up and left, whipering to each other under their breath. I think it was about 6 months later I found out it was a hoax (sorry I just spoiled the movie) I was relieved/flabbergasted and looking back a bit emberesed I had been 'swindled' - but the effect for me was being the most scarred in any movie I have ever seen, then and since.
Cole said 4 months ago
the promotion they did for that movie made it look even more real. the website for it had like warnings and news clippings. fucked up
mitchbones said 4 months ago
Blair witch scared the shit out of me. Sequel fucking sucked though.
OhioLeslie said 4 months ago
i saw it on vhs when it came out.. and STILL didn't know it was a hoax. (yeah, i was kind of behind in those days.) i was horrified. when i heard it was fake, it still totally dug the concept and all the hype behind it, though.
deepee said 4 months ago
American Psycho. It doesn't get any better.
Not that it's on your list. But IT... I laughed.

not in order, more than 10;
-Exorcism Of Emily Rose (based on true story)
-Mothman Prophecies (based on actual events)
-Dawn Of The Dead (remake w/ running zombies - brilliant)
-30 Days Of Night (minus the end. scariest looking vampires. lots of great camera shots)
-Night Watch (interesting foreign vampire movie)
-It
-The Shining
-The Gate
-They Live (most amazing fist fight scene!)
-28 Days Later + 28 Weeks Later (the newer one has the most epic beginning when he has to leave his wife behind)
-Lost Boys (classic, peep the sequel trailer on youtube!)
-Pet Cemetery 2
-Nightmare On Elm Street 3
-Fallen
gaunty said 4 months ago
the ring too
heavyprints said 4 months ago
Fallen was just an all around amazing movie. I whistle that tune whenever I think about it.
sittingduck said 4 months ago
1. Event Horizon (i dunno why, it's just one of the very few movies that scared the shit out of me.
2. Silent Hill (i've never EVER been so creeped out about a movie)
those are really my only scary movies, I mostly stick to action or comedy unless it's a zombie flick, but i don't find zombies all that scary....
kyleisez said 4 months ago
you just named 2 of the worst movies ever
MaggieH said 4 months ago
Don't forget The Last House On The Left (the original) and Phantasm. I had a friend in middle school whose family owned an indie theater that mostly showed old b&w classics but would occasionally show old horror or martial arts films. We'd hang out there all summer because it was the only place with air conditioning and I remember these two scaring us shitless.
MaggieH said 4 months ago
And The Exorcist, too. There were also a lot of old British horror movies we watched that were mostly creepy and suspenseful (not gory) that made us scared. I'm not sure how well they hold up but they were scary as hell when we were 12.
MaggieH said 4 months ago
And I'll toss in Pink Flamingos. It may not be a horror movie but it is horrific.
sittingduck said 4 months ago
how so? all the ones you named are just comedies to me ... these two were the only ones I've ever considered "scary" ... join the military, go through torture training ... alot of this stuff is just retarded funny afterwards, and a couple just hit a nerve just right and really scare the fuck out of you. these were the two that scared the fuck out of me.
megaCombo said 3 months ago
-tale of two sisters
-ju-on 2 (japanese version)
-the eye
-shinning
-exorcist
-Salo (if you can find this)
