setting wholesale price

posted 7 months ago by matt

this just recently came up, and i’m wondering how everyone has dealt with it. We were asked for wholesale prices for our shirts at turnnocturnal.com.
How much does one usually mark them down for wholesale? What’s a fair price?

rule of thumb i’ve heard is either half your sugg. retail or double your total production cost per tee (whichever works out better for you).

Yeah what I always do and tell brands I consult for is double what it cost to get made.

So if you do a run and its $7 per shirt to get made double that and your wholesale price is $14 per shirt. Then the shop will double it again (in most cases) and it retails for $26-28.

You can also do it in a x3 method.

    Production cost: $7
    Wholesale cost: $14
    Retail cost: $21

This way allows for the shop to have some leverage and mark it up to $24-$26 if they wish and when the time comes be able to put it on sale for quicker buys and everyone is happy.

maybe for mom&pops. if you deal with a major retailer expect them to set the prices cause they will.

What’s a whole sale? I usually just send out the sleeves, then if a customer is satisfied I send the rest of the shirt. Hope that helps.

It’s when you sell to stores.

The RRP for anything (over here in the UK anyway) is generally 2.5 x the wholesale price as a rule of thumb. The wholesale price is determined by either doubling the production cost or just settling on what you think is an adequate mark-up, but the retailer will always sell it for 2.5 x whatever price you give them.
