Thanks for the help on this on guys.

Heres the final sketch:

And... A color comp I did with some good old Prismacolor Markers.

The final will be painted with Guache.

I know.. I’m still kinda getting used to them, But I love how quick they dry and the control over them.. kinda like watercolors but you can still opaque them.

And yes... clean-up time is the only thing that keeps me from painting more in oils.

I thought someone might be interested to see, so I put up the process on the moleman Illy. Pretty much goes like this:

Pencil -> Scan -> Photoshop for more sketching -> Illustrator for lines -> Photoshop for color and detail

I like to get my face real close the the page and make really repetitive small marks when I draw, when I paint I like to work sloopy wet and fast, sometimes I’ll just dip my rag in paint and do the whole surface in one go, other times I prefer to draw with my paint useing really small brushes and almost inking them. here are a few.
1) one I used reflective bike saftey tape.
2) painted on the back of the canvas so that it’s framed. negative spaceness happening.
3) The Doors
4) only one string? yes and I play it like a mother fucker.

adolf, i’m only a true asshole to you. quakers a cool kid and he knows i’m joking. Damn man, you really need to chill out. We’re a community here, and we joke around. There’s no need to bring race into any of this. If you look at his portfolio, you’ll see that he is a good designer and knows what he’s doing. He’s only being an ass to you because you’re giving him a good reason to.

So take some advice, and stop trying to start shit. You’re not going to get work from people if they see that you’re being an ass to other people in the industry, and no one is ever going to want to reccommend you to a client, no matter how well your style might fit in with them. There are THOUSANDS of different people that come to this site every day and look through the site. You really don’t want to be saying things like that if you want to be accepted here or anywhere else for that matter.

yea, I’m kinda wondering right now what colors I should go for ... I was thinking a lemon lime soda can (to keep it clean for the kiddies), a root beer bottle on the right, and an orange drink box on the left .... not sure though?

Yea. All my work, (well doodles so far) are done in MS, Painter X, or PS and IL, so there is a bit of variation. However, I do prefer MS. I use a Wacom Graphire (I know, bottom of the range) but I have to save up. I’m actually beginning to think the tablet size is hindering my performance ... but after seeing some of stuff people do with the same tablet ...

bamboo is tiny dude, it’s just under 6x4 i think ... cost me 100 bucks. it’s all about zooming in and being patient with details.

umm, graduated from high school ... but no nothing after that ... even got kicked out of the highschool’s commercial art class .... it’s a senior only program that i got in to as a freshman ... I got kinda bored with 4 years of the same curriculum so I just did all my artwork in the summer and wrote notes to chicks during the school year... my teacher finally figured it out, i didn’t understand the big deal, I turned in all my work.

well, im like... you know... tracing? instead of drawing then tracing... i dont know man... im conflicted. take an hour to sketch the photo so theres more of a drawn feeling because of the whack anatomny or angles, or just go straight from photo and pump shit out in 15 minutes? bleh. this round i think its mostly sourced. screw my values.

crit: i notice that you have alot of heavy black outline in your images. ive actually done this too, but ive started to change the process in which i design. i do the final black outline last. starting with the midtone, ive noticed that the image maintains a better sense of lighting since nothing really has an outline... know what im saying? using the outline last, it should end up being sparse.

My Made to Order Design. I’m kinda stuck on this. Its a raster and so the scaling is an issue and the original is not big enough for a shirt. I’d be willing to collab with someone if they want to help. you can tell where I tried to fix the elbow and hair. The rest is ink.
Round one is up at cameesa beta but I want to fix it up.

Amen to the Undo. The only thing is that now sometimes when I’m drawing in my sketchbook and I mess up, my left hand starts to do the ring+middle finger position for ctrl+Z. Pathetic, really.

I’ve been extolling its virtues for years. Undo is a huge confidence builder.

I love it. With ink and paper you really only have one chance to get it right. With my tablet I have no qualms about trying the same stroke a couple times to get it just right.
