i hope this doesn’t air on real MTV. this kind of makes me sick to my stomach. i really love art/design and the idea of seeing it lowered to some reality show bullshit level pisses me off.

making art a competition sucks. the light hearted tee-off we had here was fun for all of us, but to have retards at mtv judge your artwork or pit you against eachother in some dumb contest for rad HP products is about as lame as it gets.

the day that i tell someone what i do for a living and they say "oh like that show on mtv?" is the day i find something else to do with my life.

and chances are that it will be filled with either really shitty designers or really good designers

    either way
    you’ll suck with an HP.

I know were your coming from. But you don’t need a mac to be a good artist. Take wyel for instance.

there aint nothing wrong with an HP. a high end HP, is just as high end as a MAC. i use a Dell. a mid range Dell. i used to make images on a Celeron Emachines.

    4. Eligibility: THIS CONTEST IS OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ANY COUNTRY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AND ARE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE AT TIME OF ENTRY; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, WITH RESPECT TO CANADA AND THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES (INCLUDING THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA), ENTRANTS SHALL ALSO BE EITHER (A) CURRENTLY ENROLLED AS A PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT AT ANY COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY DURING THE CONTEST PERIOD OR (B) HAVE GRADUATED FROM A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITHIN THE PAST TWO (2) YEARS FROM THE START OF THE CONTEST PERIOD.

Well, I guess that rules me out. I graduated in 2004.

But regardless, I think it’d be good publicity for myself and for Go Media if I could go on the show, BUT I’m kinda with SWH on this issue. I don’t exactly support MTV anyway, so I shouldn’t lower myself to their standards.

dizang, im old as dirt, i didnt see the college graduate thing. i guess like their other shows they want young and fresh, most likely attractive looking.

i imagine a show full of hip metrosexuals with 'cool' spectacles.

but for any designer, this could be a really good place to takeoff.

MTV, or TV in general suxorz i think. except for dirty jobs. thats bees knees.

so wait.... you get an HP laptop? woo... haha

but it says 400,000 for the winning team, i guess that means 100,000 per person.

no it says "he Winning Team Will Take Home $400,000 USD In Cash and HP Products!" cash AND products meaning the total value of 400,000 is made up of money and shitty laptops.

so most likely each person on the winning team is gonna get $99,960 worth of old HP ram from 2003 and $40 cash. rad.

I had a few people email me trying to get me to sign up cause of the broad skill sets but MTV? I think not... lets get even more kids that just bought photoshop to think they are designers and try and get into it charging $20 a design.

When a design contest becomes a reality tv show it means we have had enough reality tv. Lets get back to some actual content based story shows. I love seeing the live design events but come on, an mtv show?!

I can finnaly agree with SWH, whole-heartedly! MTV reality shows suck so bad..pimp my ride was bad, but tilla tequila or whatever was dumb and stupid as it gets.
if DISCOVERY did one, i think it would be ok. MTV wants young hip fags who will fight over who has the longest brush...stroke

Herman, Thank you for entering the Engine Room casting call. We checked out your work, and we’re strongly considering you for the show! As a top contender, we’d like to encourage you to upload some more samples of your work on our casting site. Not only is it better for us to evaluate all the narrowed down entries in one place, but in addition, by uploading your work, your portfolio will automatically be eligible for a chance to be selected as a weekly audience winner in accordance with the Official Rules should you not make the show. If you choose not to upload any additional works, this won’t be held against you as we narrow down the contenders. You can upload your work by visiting the link below. The casting call deadline is June 30th, so please respond as soon as you can. Thanks! - Engine Room Casting Team .

Anyone else who submitted anything to them got this email? I think everyone who submitted to them will get this computer generated email.

I have 2 exact copies of this (I’ve only submitted once though).

Nope, the college thing is for the weekly winners/raffle draw, not for the reality show. Anyone can join the show regardless of age/education, AFAIK.

Engine room blog: PRIZE: THE WINNING TEAM OF 4 WILL GET $400,000.00 IN CASH. (So, divided between the members, that’s a 100k per person). PLUS HP GEAR on top of that. There have been some saying the prize would be just software and let me say it again…$400,000 BUCKS! BONES! CLAMS!

It’s cash, and HP gear on top of that, not 400k worth of cash/products.

conor said: There is so much truth in this. Competing in this would be losing all dignity as a designer.

Hmmm or it could give you at least a free vacation for a month in New York, and the chance for the world to see your work/art.
