Designer + Drummer? Coincidence?

So I’ve noticed that more than a few of us in the community are designers, as well as musicians, however, the number of designers I come across that play drums too, is astronomical.

   Maybe it’s because so many of the designers here are into violent imagery, and drums are the most violent instrument? I played drums for a few years, too... but not all that well.

    I became a designer because I wanted to create things and it’s very competitive. Those are the same reasons why I play guitar.

    Drummer right here too back in highschool and college but haven’t touch the drums in years. I’d want to get into again but would like to experiment with an MPC or maybe Trigger Finger and a laptop.

    13 years here.

    started out watching my dad play at local jazz clubs, then i joined band, marched snare, and quints, and picked up kit.

    started on pearls, now im on porkpies. :)

    One of my best friends from home is both an awesome drummer and illustrator.

    When I was like 13 I tried to teach myself drums it was the only instrument I couldn’t pick up really quickly. I blame it on being a lady :(

    I’m a drummer too. I actually play everything but I prefer the drums because they’re the most energetic instrument to me and it’s a great stress reliever! Pacific CX biatch!

    Maybe it’s a "behind the curtains" thing? Were always in the back and designers are usually faceless when it comes to recognition. I dunno? I just pretend my drums are babies heads and I beat the piss out of them.

    i second the violent thing, and some fundamentals are the same. in the early 2000z i used to make drums so it was kind of like both at the same time.

    these ones were furry. i think HB saw them when i had them.

    I’m a drummer and I was actually thinking the same thing not too long ago. I knew Scapula, Aaron Crawford, Terror, and several other well known (and good) MySpace designers are drummers.

    I never knew why, though.

    I have no idea why I play drums. It’s just a feeling you have. I relate to it the most. It has nothing to do with the fact that I’m a designer.

    I’d think as a designer, the logical thing would be to play a lead instrument like guitar or piano.

    Guitar here too but mostly rhythm stuff no leads. I think artists in general can be musicians too.

    I am pretty good at guitar. And I dabble on the banjo. I used to play the clarinet hehe I was principal chair of the woodwind section and played sax in jazz band
