What keeps you guys motivated? I work a 9-6 job every day and I always have things I have to do when I get home. So by the time I get some down time the last thing I want to do is draw. Dreyfoos School of the Performing Arts) for all 4 years for Visual arts and was so devoted to art. After graduating I wanted nothing to do with art and honestly didn't draw much for a few years because I didn't know what I wanted to do. About 2 years ago I started getting back into it because I wanted to make something of the skills I was given. I found myself more motivated then ever because I was doing what I loved again. If you truly enjoy drawing and making art the motivation will come. I probably am kind of one of those people. I tend to plan and plan, but never follow through. And I know Im going to hate myself years later when I'm working some stupid desk job because I didn't take the time to do it when I was younger. I used to sit at work all day hoping I'd have enough energy to finish a design when I got home, or drawing at work all day trying to hide it from my boss. I still don't find buyers for alot of my art. I will continue to draw this shit after everyone has forgotten who I am, and I can't find a paying art job to save my life. Its only my opinion but, i think taking client work is great for developing your artistic skills. I imagine most, if not all, would strive for the same regardless of the presence of a client. If it sucks, oh well, keep doing it, you gotta draw the shitty drawings before you get to the good ones. Set the time and have the self-discipline to follow through and not quit. Don't be like me & waste almost 5 years telling yourself, "I'll have time one day to do this." I was so preoccupied with school & work that's all I kept telling myself. I also kept listening to what others wanted of me & let that get in the way of what I really wanted, which was to do something with my given talents. Do what you need to do. If drawing is something you are passionate about then the inspiration will come.
