Hah. Well I was just thinking people stupid enough to buy stuff like that. Its all branding, and the companies KNOW that people are buying the brand rather than the design.
thats dumb.. i payed alot for a hoody last winter.. like $130 but the shit was worth it, it is the most intricate hoody i have every seen there is embroidery on the ENTIRE thing its amazing
mine was bright yellow though, they cut production after like 2 weeks so i have one of the very few in existence :) im going to sell it in a couple weeks
these are the only pics i could find, when i get my phone ill take pics of mine
s about status and being exclusion. digital gravel has exclusive brands, top street wear...s the same thing as high class clothes like prada and coach. if you dont have the money you wont buy it, if you do youll get them because theyre status symbols.
if you can sell it for that much why not? These brands you guys always post about their overpriced garments are in a different market then we are. Some people prefer high quality fashion and brand recognition. The piece you posted above is pricey to make and prop a limited run, they will have no problem with selling them, they have that priced right for what they are doing. They dont care if any of us buy it or not, they didnt make 50,000 of them anyway.

its because all the costs of making the item are high and the company has to sell it for high to make up for that. They use great fabrics, have em custom cut and sewn, custom buttoms, embroidery etc etc.... the most simple item could have a LOT of little things that cost extra.
so feel free to hate on high priced clothes, but it costs a LOT to run clothing companies.

yah we got a sample pair of jeans made in december for 32 and it cost about $160 for one, full production would have cost us about $40-$50 a pair if we get more than like 50 of them its rough

Yeah it kind of bugs me when graphic artist hate on prices of apparel, you have to look at it from a business perspective. Just because it doesnt have the most gnarley illustration all over it with bright colors doesnt mean its not worth it. To eb honest the sweater/cardigan at the top isnt very much compared to a lot you could have found way better examples.
yeah you could get a no name PC for far less than a MAC and they both do the same thing at the end of the day, but which one do most of us have? you might say 'a computer does a lot more than a sweater' but for people who dont make money off their computer (i.e. not us) that doesnt ring true does it?
im pretty sure this has come up on here before. its kind of funny that we have multiple threads complaining about how little we make yet we want our potential employers to sell their product for less?
now that doesnt mean i agree with the price of some of this stuff but like MAS said look at it from a business perspective. if i mark this up item i only have to sell a few to break even and/or profit rather than bank of selling all of them. then once ive profited initially i can then do a considerable price drop and clear inventory and still make some money in the process.

ive paid upto £200+ ($400) for hoodies and worn for a year or 2 and sold them on again for more than I paid. If theres a market its cool.
paying $100 for a limited quality item is cheap, all depend on how much money and the £ $ ration.
$40 for a tee is cheap, you cant get a HIGH STREET item in some of the mass produced shops in the city for less than $50, a designer limited item costs like $75+
Also when it comes to business, the higher your price, the higher the demand "SEEMS" to the customer..
Ed Hardy didnt start selling $22 dollar tees and then jump to $165, and its known that once your start low, it would be very hard to charge more...
Plus some of the tees here could easily be sold for $50 a tee, ecspecially with the labor of the designs...An illustrator/freelancer for Mecca Clothing charges $400 for a 2 color design, so then the client can then turn around and charge more per shirt because of the design fee..It jus proven thats its a lot easier to throw a $20 off sign on a tee to show your giving a deal, then it is to up the price...

AA in the UK high street ( another shop I hate, I have 1 AA tee with my design on and the tees like piss through quality ) goes for like $20+ blank with no print etc
So if your paying for a quality design print on a AA tee in the US your doing great.

Marketing and branding allow some retailers to sell at ridiculously high prices. Two items can be made in the same factory but the one sold by the luxury retailer is priced at 5x the cost of the one sold by the high street store.
Check the mastermind shit. Basically clipart one color flocked skull shirts for $400+. Ugly ass jeans for $1000+. Also insane are all of the NUMBER (N)INE shirts. One color "NO FAIR" for $180. WHAT THE FUCKKKKKK. And the shits selling out
I say stop bitching about how expensive the stuff is, if you dont like it you dont have to buy it; simple as that. These companies are making a lot more money than most of the people here on emptees, and everybody always hates on them. Ive hated on babycakes before but that line is just ridiculous he doesnt do anything special. Lines like BAPE and BBC and others along those lines do TONS of cut and sew items as well as limiting the quantities which gives the customer the feeling of exclusivity. So what if it is simple, all of Bapes stuff is still made with the same care that is was 15 years ago on top of that Nigo is a marketing fucking genius. Just because they charge more than you think they should doesnt mean that it is ridiculous, I pay a lot for clothes and I have no issue with that. Its just not you niche so get over it people.

touche, my main point was that I feel that the other brands are putting more work into their clothes which warrants the prices.... I contradicted myself with what I said but it still proved my point. He is good at marketing with his demographic, he cant really get anybody outside of that demographic though like some of these brands can.

everybody wants to be a bro, its okay to admit it
When brands like Monarchy Collection, Salvage, and Affliction first started coming out, I was (and still am) way in to their designs. Now I see that the crowd that generally wears them are the types that would show up on hotchickswithdouchebags.com, but whateverrrr, Id still rock them (if Id be willing to pay $60+ for a tee).
exactly! im a social pariah anyways. So who gives a shit if a douche wears the same shit as me, maybe the douche actually has good taste in design and isnt just wearing it to be cool [doubtful, but we can hope, cant we?]!
maybe its cuz i take the design and not the culture its associated with?
i could really care less who else wears what i do.
sure.
the designs all look the same to me, and every shirt is a giant advertisement for the brand with AFFLICTION emblazoned all over it. and sure, the fact that a huge percentage of douchebags have taken a shining to the brand doesnt help it, i admit. they should start offering channel earrings free with the purchase of those overpriced monstrosities, maybe some free hair gel and tanning coupons.
Its fuckin' sick. It all comes down to rich people having so much money that they dont even know what to do with it. Ill say what $180 would say for me if 1.) I could (reasonably) afford this shirt and 2.) I was a complete douche:

/\/\ what he said +100

so you can hate on babycakes because he doesnt put "2/150" on the back of his clothes or you can hate on him cause you dont like him? then whenever someone hates on something you like you can tell them to quit bitching and get over it? why do you get to choose what people can bitch about? id say paul griffiths is a 'marketing genius' as well, but apparently its just not your niche, so get over it.

wow, calm down doods, take a chill pill!
everyone has their own opinion but dont take it too far...
Simply Complicated said 4 months ago
touche, my main point was that I feel that the other brands are putting more work into their clothes which warrants the prices.... I contradicted myself with what I said but it still proved my point. He is good at marketing with his demographic, he cant really get anybody outside of that demographic though like some of these brands can.

affliction sucks. period. bro.
njonas said 4 months ago
affliction?? iiick
i think the steroid pumping persian crowd with oversized glasses and spiked hair (the jersey kids of the west coast) took that brand over...
Incarnadine said 4 months ago
Really? Thats sad... I have two of their older shirts. Got them from Ross of course though, 5 dollars sucka!
Randomentity said 4 months ago
explain?
maybe its cuz i take the design and not the culture its associated with?
i could really care less who else wears what i do.
Incarnadine said 4 months ago
^^^ Heck yeah.
Randomentity said 4 months ago
exactly! im a social pariah anyways. So who gives a shit if a douche wears the same shit as me, maybe the douche actually has good taste in design and isnt just wearing it to be cool [doubtful, but we can hope, cant we?]!

affliction is for musclehead bar star dudes and east indian gangster kids.
j3concepts said 4 months ago
Michael Shantz wears Affliction and loves it. That reminds me Ill be back in Van on my way to Berlin in September, we should meet up this time.
scottymac said 4 months ago
sure.
the designs all look the same to me, and every shirt is a giant advertisement for the brand with AFFLICTION emblazoned all over it. and sure, the fact that a huge percentage of douchebags have taken a shining to the brand doesnt help it, i admit. they should start offering channel earrings free with the purchase of those overpriced monstrosities, maybe some free hair gel and tanning coupons.
BRO!
4Sevens said 4 months ago
Its fuckin' sick. It all comes down to rich people having so much money that they dont even know what to do with it. Ill say what $180 would say for me if 1.) I could (reasonably) afford this shirt and 2.) I was a complete douche:
