So I sold a design to someone to print a little while ago. I wont call them out unless they continue doing what I think theyre going to do. I just received an email from them, and they want to post the design I made on threadless. Im not happy about this, they actually want me to make all the little pictures so they can post the design as their own. Anyone else think this is kinda wrong? what should i do?

thanks man, I was really unhappy to wake up to that this morning. just to clarify to everyone else, it wasnt madebymas who did this, he acts as a middle man for me sometimes and this client happened to be through him.

if I were you, Id specify what rights you are actually selling when you sell artwork from now on. For instance: all design credit and right to redistribute the design itself are reserved for you, while they can only print it for themselves, etc.

Thats terrible. Threadless and DBH are communities for the artist to showcase THEMSELVES and try to make some money. Not for a company to previously purchase artwork for a personal line and then intend to sell it to another company.
This is not "flip that design" which would be an interesting show on bravo. LOL

could you not just email threadless?

yea, Ive been doing that lately, I think Im just confusing my clients though. actually I am confusing my clients. They cant seem to understand that I want to retain rights to the piece unless they pay a much larger fee. Its not like I resell my artwork to anyone once its sold, I just dont want to get screwed in this sort of situation.

I guess Im asking what the best way to go about this is so it doesnt happen again in the future, I already let the client know I didnt agree with what he was doing.

i really dont think there is anything you can ultimately do
if there gonna be dicks there still gonna be dicks if u make them sign something
i think the best thing you can do is build up good relationships with clients and only work for people you trust i know this doesnt help your current situation but its all just a learning curve i guess you need these things to happen to you early so you learn from them if that makes any sence
