So my girlfriend knocked my hardrive over last night and my computer stopped recognizing it. I took it this morning to see if my files could be saved and the only way is through a disk recovery which costs upwards of $1,000. All my designs were on here and it was my only back up. Has anyone else had this happen and what did you do?

try the freezing, it works sometimes. at least enough to get what you need out of there.

The freezer thing does work if its the right/wrong sort of damage- the longer the freezer visit- the longer the boot- but it may only last 20 mins at max. Make sure you put it in an airtight bag to avoid condensation.
Leave it in over night.
There are file recovery programs to try- again if the damage is the right sort of damage.
Try using it as a slave- not a boot.
and the last option is to send it to the lab.

I’m going to ask friends about recovery. Then if all else fails, I’ll do the freezer trick. I need to go buy a new drive before I try it so i have somewhere to put all the files.
