could I replace gnarly by Extreme?
i wouldnt use the word "Extreme" OR "Gnarly" unless it was the 90's again and we were at the X-games....
well, to try to be somewhat helpful, what are you trying to say exactly? what are you getting at? is it for a shirt? perhaps people on here could help you better if they knew what you using these "gnarly" words for.

gnarly can be used as both a good and bad adjective.
lets say, you have a gross tasting sandwhich. you could say "this sandwich is GNARLY" or if a friend cuts his hand with a knife you could say "thats a GNARLY gash!"
but you could also use it positively, like "check out that GNARLY wave!" if you were a surfer or "that kickflip was GNARLY"....
feel free to correct me people, i never say "gnarly" unless jokingly in a stereotypical surfer drawl...and of course you have to extend the R with gutteral sounds like "gnarrrrharharharly"
as for "flossy' ive never heard anyone in california, sf to la, say "flossy' but i have heard flossin' (both verb and adjective) such as "he was flossin a gold chain" or "those rims are flossin!"...flossin' being akin to "blingin'

*gas, break, dip! dip! ghost ride the whip!*
woot for hearing shotgun murders down the street and reading about it the next day in the oakland tribune!
I live in the suburbs of Union City and some people here are still "hyphy" and a lot of people here act like the that Dance show on MTV is like the second coming of Jesus . . .

I would say these are american terms and not english...
If you said flossy to the majority of british people within the UK they would assume its something you clean your teeth with .

This is a guy cleaning lint out of the clothes dryer. And 'Linty Fresh' is a play on words, changing the popular saying 'Minty Fresh'. Quite clever.
