I had an iphone for a little over a year and I grew to hate the thing. The sentiment was cemented once I moved to Nashville, where there is seemingly NO at&t coverage. I cant even use it in my own apartment or around town.
On top of that its always freezing, lagging, etc. Plus I hate using a virtual keyboard to text...makes it impossible to text while driving (which I guess I shouldnt be doing anyway)
Anyway, I just switched over to verizon and my new phone is coming in the mail. Everyone Ive told that Im ditching the iPhone is like 'OMG why in the world are you doing that?!?!??!'
Just curious if Im the only iphone abandoner in a sea of iphone adopters.
Interesting sidenote - I posted it on craigslist last night for sale and woke up to 73 emails in my inbox asking to buy it. ITS NOT EVEN 3G!
insanity.

yeesh.
Im getting the new one, but the plans are hellacious. Verizon sucks here in Jacksonville and my phone is a piece of crap.
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
what phone do you have?
i got the blackberry curve. i read a bunch of reviews of it and it seemed adequate.
verizon is the only provider around here with stellar service. i think sprint is 2nd but i hate sprint.

i was this close [that close] to buying a new one but then i realized i cant stand touch screen, and especially cant stand smudgy touch screens.
Randomentity said 3 months ago
GASP!
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
yeah, the touch screen drives me nuts. plus, i never use any of the apps. the only real benefit i get from it is the 8 gigs of music it can hold... however, im never really anywhere that i need it. ive got all of my music on my work and home computer.
its true!

I got some phone that is basically free now. The Blackberry curve is sweet.

I dont think I can use another cell phone. The iphone, imo, works the way a phone is supposed to work. Ive used a lot of other phones (sidekicks, MDAs, Blackberrys) and they all lagged, had confusing apps, pointless features I never used, and were missing things like the ability for improvement that the iphone has. I just dont think Windows Mobile is up to par with what osx is capable of doing. Also, its not very user friendly.
If I were to get another phone however, it would probably be Googles phone Android. Id like to see what that phone is capable of.

Im hopefully getting an iphone soon
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
android isnt a phone, but a mobile OS. i think the first phones with android on them are coming out later this year.
i agree wholeheartedly that the iphone is how phones should work. its a pocket version of the most intuitive, easy to use OS out there. for me though, i just want a phone with a keyboard for shooting quick emails and texts, and one that actually gets service in my city.
LuckyStripes said 3 months ago
I agree Conor! The iPhone is perfect for me. I love how Apple consistently updates the software, so that shows me my investment is steadily paying off, the ability for applications to expand and grow, and how it syncs with my computer via MobileMe (they will eventually get it right!).
It really comes down to yourself as a phone/laptop user. I am always on the go, so the mail/safari is perfect.
I also love the headphones + speaker, Fuck bluetooth, I dont want to look like a robot from the future.
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
amen to bluetooth. i hate when people look like they are talking to themselves in the grocery store, only to find out theres a tiny thing in their ear. i always think they are talking to me at first
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
the interesting thing is that everyone ive mentioned it to thinks im now some sort of anti-iphone proponent.
not the case at all. i think the iphone is amazing, but its just proven to not be the solution for ME.
its like people think im going on some sort of anti-iphone crusade, which is not the case.
conor said 3 months ago
You know what I meant! Im interested in seeing how the android OS gets used, and on what phones.
Ive used sidekicks since the first one with no color in 2002(? I paid $350 for it!!!) and I actually dont mind them that much. If you can get over the trendy stereotype the sk has, you have a phone with a great keyboard and the ability to shoot those quick texts/emails!
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
yeah, ive used one before briefly. it seemed decent.
however, and this may sound silly, but when dealing with clients and business meetings and such... id much rather pull a blackberry out of my pocket to look up a number or enter a date, than a sidekick.
maybe its just me, but i kind of associate sidekicks with teenage girls
reputationcompany said 3 months ago
had mine since it came out
so a year? i unlocked it
got tired of it
tried craigslist
kept getting lowballed
sold the thing on ebay for $390! ha
went back to a sidekick
missed it
conor said 3 months ago
Haha, this is true. I didnt know you would be using it as a work/business meeting phone. The Blackberry is a much more suitable choice.
explodingtoes said 3 months ago
70% chance this is going to happen to me haha
i act on impulse a little too frequently

I have verizon and live in Nashville as well. My coverage is great all over the city and surrounding areas. I have only found just a couple of spots were my service will drop, but thats way out in the middle of no where in heavily wooded areas....
ThinkBaker said 3 months ago
I have an iphone... and I TOO live in Nashville... My coverage is okay, but nowhere near as good as my verizon shit-phone.. there I said it.
All Nashvillans. please stand up.... lets go drink beer at Dan McGuinness'
Eternyl said 3 months ago
nope love my 3G....i had a blackberry curve, and an LG CU500, both which I couldnt hold a call anywhere....i think they were lemon phones.
With the iphone I havent dropped a call yet....maybe just lucky.
Maybe cause Im in a somewhat big area....in between Milwaukee and Chicago - 3G is everywhere.
I might have lucked out and just got a good phone..no lagging at all...although once it quit safari on me.
love the texting - I do it all through the Jott App....just say it, and text it or email it away.
dont text and drive...nothing is that important

explodingtoes said 3 months ago

explodingtoes said 3 months ago
rushing and jimiyo are local, too, i think
Incarnadine said 3 months ago
I got an old iphone for free, since the person was getting a 3G. The cheapest rate for it is roughly double what Im paying now, so its more of an ipod touch right now.
hideyourarms said 3 months ago
The touchscreen texting can take a lot of getting used to, I had an LG Prada for a year before I got the 3G iPhone and Im still not that quick at texting (my sausage like fingers may be to blame for that though).
I cant see myself abandoning the iPhone though, I love the level of connectivity it gives me (posting to twitter, posting to my blogs, posting to facebook, uploading low quality iPhone pics to Flickr, etc.), and I dont own an MP3 player so its a good 2-in-1 solution for me.
conor said 3 months ago
That LG Prada is a pretty phone, I love the minimalist black and white icons and theme.
ThinkBaker said 3 months ago
I am literally about 1 mile from you... right now. I work on Church, right between 18th and 19th ave.
I think Jimiyo is in Murfreesboro right now. I didnt know Chris lived here?
explodingtoes said 3 months ago

jimiyo is moving back to nashville soon, i believe.

explodingtoes said 3 months ago
what do the 2 of you fellas do for a living?
hideyourarms said 3 months ago
Totally, it looked really nice until inevitable wear and tear led to a few little scratches and the silver paint flaking off (despite me keeping it in the supplied Prada case at all times).
