anyone else abandon their iphone?

posted 3 months ago by explodingtoes

I had an iphone for a little over a year and I grew to hate the thing. The sentiment was cemented once I moved to Nashville, where there is seemingly NO at&t coverage. I can’t even use it in my own apartment or around town.

On top of that it’s always freezing, lagging, etc. Plus I hate using a virtual keyboard to text...makes it impossible to text while driving (which I guess I shouldn’t be doing anyway)

Anyway, I just switched over to verizon and my new phone is coming in the mail. Everyone I’ve told that I’m ditching the iPhone is like 'OMG why in the world are you doing that?!?!??!'

Just curious if I’m the only iphone abandoner in a sea of iphone adopters.

Interesting sidenote - I posted it on craigslist last night for sale and woke up to 73 emails in my inbox asking to buy it. ITS NOT EVEN 3G!

insanity.

    yeesh.

I’m getting the new one, but the plans are hellacious. Verizon sucks here in Jacksonville and my phone is a piece of crap.

    what phone do you have?

i got the blackberry curve. i read a bunch of reviews of it and it seemed adequate.

verizon is the only provider around here with stellar service. i think sprint is 2nd but i hate sprint.

yeah, the touch screen drives me nuts. plus, i never use any of the apps. the only real benefit i get from it is the 8 gigs of music it can hold... however, im never really anywhere that i need it. ive got all of my music on my work and home computer.

I got some phone that is basically free now. The Blackberry curve is sweet.

I don’t think I can use another cell phone. The iphone, imo, works the way a phone is supposed to work. I’ve used a lot of other phones (sidekicks, MDA’s, Blackberrys) and they all lagged, had confusing apps, pointless features I never used, and were missing things like the ability for improvement that the iphone has. I just don’t think Windows Mobile is up to par with what osx is capable of doing. Also, it’s not very user friendly.

If I were to get another phone however, it would probably be Google’s phone Android. I’d like to see what that phone is capable of.

android isn’t a phone, but a mobile OS. i think the first phones with android on them are coming out later this year.

i agree wholeheartedly that the iphone is how phones should work. its a pocket version of the most intuitive, easy to use OS out there. for me though, i just want a phone with a keyboard for shooting quick emails and texts, and one that actually gets service in my city.

I agree Conor! The iPhone is perfect for me. I love how Apple consistently updates the software, so that shows me my investment is steadily paying off, the ability for applications to expand and grow, and how it syncs with my computer via MobileMe (they will eventually get it right!).

It really comes down to yourself as a phone/laptop user. I am always on the go, so the mail/safari is perfect.

I also love the headphones + speaker, Fuck bluetooth, I don’t want to look like a robot from the future.

amen to bluetooth. i hate when people look like they are talking to themselves in the grocery store, only to find out theres a tiny thing in their ear. i always think they are talking to me at first

the interesting thing is that everyone i’ve mentioned it to thinks i’m now some sort of anti-iphone proponent.

not the case at all. i think the iphone is amazing, but its just proven to not be the solution for ME.

its like people think i’m going on some sort of anti-iphone crusade, which is not the case.

I’ve used sidekicks since the first one with no color in 2002(? I paid $350 for it!!!) and I actually don’t mind them that much. If you can get over the trendy stereotype the sk has, you have a phone with a great keyboard and the ability to shoot those quick texts/emails!

yeah, ive used one before briefly. it seemed decent.

however, and this may sound silly, but when dealing with clients and business meetings and such... i’d much rather pull a blackberry out of my pocket to look up a number or enter a date, than a sidekick.

maybe its just me, but i kind of associate sidekicks with teenage girls

Haha, this is true. I didn’t know you would be using it as a work/business meeting phone. The Blackberry is a much more suitable choice.

nope love my 3G....i had a blackberry curve, and an LG CU500, both which I couldn’t hold a call anywhere....i think they were lemon phones.

With the iphone I haven’t dropped a call yet....maybe just lucky.

Maybe cause I’m in a somewhat big area....in between Milwaukee and Chicago - 3G is everywhere.

I might have lucked out and just got a good phone..no lagging at all...although once it quit safari on me.

love the texting - I do it all through the Jott App....just say it, and text it or email it away.

don’t text and drive...nothing is that important

I got an old iphone for free, since the person was getting a 3G. The cheapest rate for it is roughly double what I’m paying now, so it’s more of an ipod touch right now.

The touchscreen texting can take a lot of getting used to, I had an LG Prada for a year before I got the 3G iPhone and I’m still not that quick at texting (my sausage like fingers may be to blame for that though).

I can’t see myself abandoning the iPhone though, I love the level of connectivity it gives me (posting to twitter, posting to my blogs, posting to facebook, uploading low quality iPhone pics to Flickr, etc.), and I don’t own an MP3 player so its a good 2-in-1 solution for me.
