Sarah Palin for VP

posted 2 months ago by explodingtoes

Exciting choice!

Obama’s camp has already released a message regarding her inexperience! Ridiculous, considering who its coming from.

I’m really excited for this. Plus she looks pretty attractive for an older woman. PALIN FTW.

Unknown Alaskan who was a governor only like 3 years ago...

Its because she’s female. Plain and simple. This election is all about appealing to the minorities and everyone else that elections usually ignore.

i cant hate his pick. Reason being this election will actually have change in it for once! Not a 50 year old white male taking office. It will either be a woman or a black in office and thats a step in the right direction if you ask me!

    Unknown Alaskan?

as opposed to unknown new senator from Illinois?

I’m just saying experience isn’t something that can be argued by either side.

Sure Biden adds experience to the Obama ticket, but McCain trumps that with his own.

She is actually an impressive candidate, ethical reformer, and 'regular american'

And I dont doubt for a second that her gender is being used to pull in all of those bitter Hillary supporters, but I don’t care. If that what it takes to block Obama, good on it.

All I’m saying is, its no longer about who has experience or not. Its about appealing to groups of people through gender and race... and it makes me sick.

i think its a little deeper than that. sure thats a big factor, but there are real issues involved.

yes, there are people voting for Barack b/c he’s black...but a lot of people are voting for him because of what he stands for and what he claims he will do.

    same goes for McCain/Palin.

This was some evil genius shit on McCain’s part. He’s already released commercials trying to persuade disgruntled Hillary supporters to back him. I honestly think that’s all this pick was meant to do. Frustrating, but brilliant.

But yea, a little hypocritical too.

    nope, not the sole reason.
    a huge part of it.
but she also appeals to 'regular americans' with her story...mother of 5, rose from the middle class, blah blah blah.

i’m just saying, her selling point is not one dimensional.

a big factor is also is that she is uber-conservative, which brings all of the conservatives disenchanted with McCain back to his side.

so yes a woman, but also a strong conservative, which the party needs.

I wouldn’t say the sole reason, but even political analysts for the republicans said that the party really wanted a women running for VP, and that cuts down your choices by a lot.

Hmmm... It seems a bit of a shell game trying to get the Hillary vote, just throw a woman in there and we’ll take those votes. If I was a women who voted for Hillary I would be insulted, the two of them are polar opposites policy wise. The only thing they have in common is they are both women.

I think the MILF thing is not a plus for them either, a 44 year old former beauty queen would be next in line to be prez ? You think that will fly with the voter?

She may be a very strong candidate, but they only have 10 weeks to make that point.

basically McCain is going to lose, we know that much by now. but i think he would have actually performed better with Romney.

    1. she is a horrible speaker (im listening to her now)

    2. she will not pull as many hillary voters as you think, she is strongly anti abortion rights and that shit will not fly as well as you think it will with hillary’s base. you have to remember that hillary’s voters are democrats not republicans, and to say that they were just voting for hillary because she was a woman is insulting. she is an impressive candidate.

    3. now the sum of total experience shifts way in obama/biden’s favor.

    4. we know from the obama/clinton race that america is much more weary of a woman in office than a black man. i think its safe to say that a large percentage of older republicans really dont like this choice by McCain.

McCain was running on experience, now he is trying to run on "change". if Obama and McCain are in a race to see who is the "most changiest" Barack is the guaranteed win.

  30. explodingtoes - explodingtoes avatar

    explodingtoes said 2 months ago

i wouldn’t say its desperation. beyond her womanhood, she stands for a lot of things important to conservative voters.

as a conservative, I wasn’t too happy with McCain being the Republican nominee, but I’m much more comfortable with the ticket with her on board...and not because she is a woman.

so, just for the record, her inclusion on the Republican ticket does have the power to impress men as well!

how? The biggest undecided voters are middle aged women. This is a smart choice to get the Hillary voters to vote Republican and the independent women voters. She has no ties with Bush and shes actually done a lot of work to stop drilling in Alaska.

the one thing i disagree with is the experience shift. i think experience hasn’t shifted but instead become a non-point.

biden & mccain have experience, obama & palin don’t. so neither party can really pull that card anymore.

    2. I agree, Hilary ruled. But, look how many of her supporters went to McCain purely out of spite. Hilary’s and McCain’s policies are so different, so the only reason to go over to McCain was spite. Lamesville. I think most Hilary supporters will vote on the issues in the end and go with Obama, but there will still be those who vote for McCain for the wrong reasons. And now, with a female VP, those numbers will increase, however slightly.

the thing about McCain is that 30 years ago. He would be running as a democrat, and Barack would be running as some extreme leftist third party canidate. I think McCain is going to get a lot of the old timey democrat vote. Adding Palin only sweetens the pot for him as it lets him appeal to conservatives at the same time.

I think most voters are aware that this is a ploy to pull in support from the middle aged women, who are a major undecided category.

As SWH said, the anti-abortion will not sit well with this group. And Hillary backing her party (which is backing Obama, though I’m not so certain either her or Bill want to vote for him) will likely keep her supporters in favor of the democratic ticket. I think until November 4th, it will seem as though Hillary is still running for president.

The most ballots posted are from old republicans, and they will be showing up in large numbers this year no doubt. They will not be excited to see Palin on the ticket but they’ll still go McCain regardless, and they’ll reason it, "well, McCain has got to combat Obama somehow, so I guess it’s okay." And essentially they are right, but It’s a bummer we don’t get the best candidates because of that.

yeah it sucks because McCain talked so much shit about how "Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign". the selection of Palin shows clearly that McCain cares more about winning a political campaign than doing what is best for america. she is in no way prepared to take over as president of the united states if/when McCain dies.

Looks as if McCain does win we are going to get more of the same tight lipped, relax we’re the deciders, type of relationship with the media and the american people. Obviously the future is in more renewable energy sources - no-one argues that - but for the time being we are getting screwed at the pump - I pay almost $6 for a gallon of diesel and the ONLY reason our prices are so ridiculous is because of the blind stubborness of those who think they know whats best for all of us.

Yeah, It seems backward doesn’t it. If Obama really is inexperienced, he has experience backing him and in a tragic incident we still have experience. McCain is the experience and as you said, if he checks out, we’re left with someone that is NOT prepared for the job.

It certainly takes away the argument the Republicans have about inexperience.

However, I really don’t think McCain is that outrageously experienced with the modern world. The man doesn’t know how to send an email and stated he doesn’t want to learn. Now, obviously being able to send an E-Mail doesn’t qualify or disqualify someone or else we would all be running. But it tells me that McCain is not going to want to learn a lot of vital things that have changed in the past two decades and WILL be vital to him running the country from 2009 to 2012. On a side note, I find it annoying when people say "the world is changing." That fact is the world has ALREADY changed.

In McCain’s favor I will say he has a more tenacious attitude, which is important with foreign relations. I love that Obama wants to open up more dialogue and bring more soldiers home, but I want to see him sink his feet into the ground a little more. He’s been a fairly friendly candidate thus far to McCain, and although he should not become a bully, he needs to become more than a voice. The debates are going to be incredible, and I suspect Obama will make this change at that time. For all of you that don’t know where Obama stands on issues, you have no excuse not to tune in.

I’m sure this has already been said 1000 times in here, but drilling there isn’t going to make a huge difference. It can take years or even a decade before we see any significant return, and when we do it will be a small percentage of what we use.

What you’re suggesting we do is place a very small band-aid on a very huge wound. Drilling isn’t going to solve the problem.

Exactly. They cancel each other out. It’s not a good reason to be fawning over anybody.

As for ANWR. We’ve got rigs in the Gulf of Mexico right now that aren’t 'turned on' right now. My dad’s a captain on rig supply boats and he told me of two that they’re bringing back into production. Don’t know if isaboa is being sarcastic or what but ANWR wouldn’t even be a temporary fix at this point. There wasn’t a reason to tap them 7 years ago and even if we did they’d only just now be producing if built at all, and that would’ve been some seriously suspicious forsight considering the direction we went (Iraq) after 9/11 also only 7 years ago.

Yea, the scientific community has quickly realized that corn ethanol is not the way to go, though right now it would be the easiest technology wise. The higher food prices have already been felt, there were riots in Mexico about the rising cost of the tortilla, (which is you know, kind of hilarious though it’s terrible that I think so)

Obama just realizes that we are spending money a lot of places that can be spent elsewhere, for instance he plans on funding certain education programs by getting rid of certain unnecessary tax breaks for corporations and the rich, and telling NASA to chill out about going to Mars for awhile. That’s the type of planning that needs to go into research & implementation of alternative fuel sources.

Now the GOP... well... they are just jumping on the bandwagon. McCain’s pick is just coming off as a very transparent attempt at "lets find a woman to get the Hilary swing voters. And make sure she’s hella hot to compete in celebrity against Obama. See if we can get her in Maxim."

I’m not a Dem. I’m not a Rep. America went up for sale 35 years ago and its going to take more than just a new President to fix it.

What about trying to get creationism in schools? Trying to fire a cop cause he broke up with her sister? Not knowing exactly what vp does? Pure pandering to women

We get about 17% of our oil from the Middle East. Drilling in ANWR to save us barely 5% doesn’t solve our problem.

17% its more than that buddy. Now, we import more than 50% of our oil.

ISABOA -- What do you think? Any ground to the rumors that Palin’s youngest is actually her daughter’s? I ask you because you saw her before and after the birth I assume.
