    I’ve gotta agree with joey. If your asking for a font ask your friends for it, don’t post it on a message board. Like, its one thing to ask if anyone has a great photo of a skull or something for you to use (hopefully royalty free) but asking for a font is just too much. Its the whole napster thing, it would have been awesome if that thing stayed hidden but when people started catching on it caught the attention of bigger people and it all just went to shit.

    p.s. I buy all my music. Haha.

    It is the whole design community’s problem. How is stealing a font any different than ripping a design. Where are the line drawn. If I stole one of your designs whos problem is that?

    Its principle of the fact and respect for the designer. Dali has been dead for some time now, does that mean I can take his paintings? No, I wouldn’t want too. He made a name for himself and demands that respect. The only reason it seems less offensive with a font is because its a hell of a lot easier to just hit command+c and command+v then it is to learn to paint like dali.

    I know I am guilty of using fonts I haven’t purchased but you dont bring it out in the open and ask the world for the font. Find a way to get it that isn’t publicly announced.

    fyi i actually bought avant garde a long time ago. and it was fucking expensive. buying fonts is not cheap.

    if you ask me they totally overcharge for fonts like they overcharge for Cds, but thats just one opinion...

    I think there are two things stopping designers from stealing what they don’t have a right to use: Other designers stigmatizing it, and personal morals.
    The legal line is clearly drawn. It’s how much you want to bend it over your head and how much it may or may not hurt your head.
    I came up in a scene where we believed "you don’t have to fuck people over to survive". I make it a point to support the artists I appreciate like the bands I listen to and the designers I like to look at, even donating to ThisLife.org because I listen to their free feed so often. But it’s hard for kids these days since the internet makes things so readily available and popular culture lends a false sense of possession to certain imagery.
    There’s a really good documentary about Fair Use and copyright called
    Sonic Outlaws.
    You can find some clips on Youtube.
