my computer is shocking me

posted 2 months ago by seibei

No, it isn’t a gross video or anything, my laptop literally puts out an electrical charge that causes me minor discomfort.

So, in late July, I came home from my trip to Amsterdam and Copenhagen to find that my computer wouldn’t turn on at all. It was under Best Buy warranty, so I took it to Best Buy, they sent it off for repairs, and literally a month later I got it back with a brand new motherboard (it had been delayed because they’d ordered a new motherboard, only to find it was defective, and had to wait for a new one).

It now runs like a charm, except it has NO SOUND AT ALL. I took it to Best Buy, and they said the new motherboard was defective, but with Renegade Chicago coming up I can’t afford to not crunch out some new designs and can’t afford to get behind, so I told em I’d have them send it off later.

Then later I noticed that the front speaker grills (upon which I rest my wrists while typing) actually shock me sometimes. I had assumed it was some other kind of pain, but, I tested it, and it shocks me and is kind of painful. It’s only a sometimes kind of thing.

Again, I can’t afford to lose the time before Renegade Chicago, so I’m going to suck it up for another week before I roll in and demand that they make my computer non-lethal.

Wow, 3 out of 3 bad motherboards... That’s pretty sucky. What’s the brand?

I had a Dell that was crazy. Shit would make your hair stand up when you touched a metal part.

wow, that is a great idea. THE POWER OF COMMUNITY!

HP, but I don’t know if I’d chalk this up to them; I’d be more inclined to chalk it up to a repair person doing a half-assed job.

Maybe they’ll give you a brand new one since it’s been repaired 3 times? That could be cool. Back everything up.

hahaha I do plan on getting a mac one of these days.

Best Buy has a policy where your computer will be replaced if it’s repaired 4 times, sadly this would only be repair 3.
