Long rant, sorry.

I'm officially done with Macs and any Apple product, for that matter.

I currently have a 1.5 year old 17" MacBook Pro. At the time I bought it, it was their flagship laptop.

A month ago I took it in because my battery was swollen, which made it impossible to click on the trackpad. Not a huge deal, I guess. Of course for a $3000+ laptop I'd expect better quality and durability than that. But still, with AppleCare I was able to get it replaced and all it cost me was a trip to the Apple Store to deal with one of their "Geniuses", who apparently wasn't genius enough to just look at the warped and bloated battery to know that it was the issue. Instead he had to run a whole system diagnostic to find out, EUREKA, the battery was shot.

Fast forward to last week. No less than 20 times my computer would totally freeze up. The picture looked like some shitty 80s 8-bit video game. I'd have to restart it numerous times to get it working. Take it to the Apple store and they tell me my logic board (fancy name for a motherboard) is hosed. Now this is my work computer. It's not my only computer, but it is my main work one, nonetheless. I'm going to be out of commission until at least Sunday, they tell me. In the meantime I keep the laptop and work on it sporadically, at best.

I called in today to ask if the logic board has come in, since I was told it would be here today. The "genius" says it isn't in. I ask when I can expect it and his answer is "it'll get here when it gets here" and I hear him give a little laugh. I ask "that's the answer you're going with?" and he proceeds to tell me how a part is ordered and delivered as if this is all a foreign concept to me. I just hung up.

Needless to say, I'm done with Apple products. I have an $800 Dell that is 3 years old that has NEVER had an issue. I bought what was supposed to be the be all end all in laptops and it's given me nothing but problems. Don't get me started about how many times it crashes out of the blue for no reason.

In the end, Apple is a hype machine that should spend more money on R&D and a little less on cute commercials that personify their computers and operating system. OSX is nice but I can hack a PC (that is twice as powerful and half the price) to run it, so it's a moot point now.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't have the time, money or patience to give Apple numerous chances. I shouldn't have to buy more than one machine to find one that works like it should. Not to mention, their customer service today on the phone is appalling. The guy was a complete jerk for no reason at all. I have a crappy Dell Inspiron that runs like a champ. The only time it's crashed is because of something I did wrong. I've never had a virus on it and I've never had ANY hardware issues.

I fell for the Mac hype, admittedly. I love OSX but that doesn't justify me spending that much on a mediocre computer.

i guess im the only one with a positive experience with the genius bar.

my hard drive dies after numerous fuck ups on my account. so i go to the apple store expecting a hefty fee, praying that there wasnt a fault with the logic board. ten minutes of me being there, the guy identified it was the hd, and told me they would replace it, and my keyboard (which had a hairline split on one side). not only did they say they would do it within half a day, they also did it for free. i have no mac care. my macbook is at least a year out of warranty. i literally have no idea why they offered to do it for free, but im not exactly going to complain. i turn up at the end of the day to a shiny clean macbook.

sorry to hear you havent had the same experience, but its not all gloom with apple.

I agree, it sucks that you were dealt those cards and given a bad experience. I've been lucky enough to mostly deal with competent people from Apple so my experiences have been fine.

<a href="http://bwnt.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/customer_service_2009/index.asp">They are #20 on the top customer service for 2009</a>, it must mean something.
My last Macbook cracked 3 times, just from closing it over time. I have been through 4 chargers, which keep melting. My first Macbook also cracked. My new Aluminium Macbook's mouse button is now broken, I have to click it about 3 times, most of the time to get it to work. Even though I have experienced so many problems with Apple Computers, It's nothing compared to the frustration I used to get using Windows! I used to feel like ripping my eyeballs out when my PC used to crash constantly & take about 3 weeks to start up.

Apple fo' life y'all!

I did have to replace the charger after the lightning thing. It was like 12 bucks on ebay.

I agree with you, but most people don't have a clue or are just too lazy to set it up. Bottom line, you have to do pretty much zero virus control on a Mac, so it's just easier and more convenient.

Not trying to argue with you, just giving some reasoning why all the Mac love. I've used both extensively and the end result was the same anyway.

There seems to be a bunch of Mac bashin' here. Thought I'd share my experiences with Macs:

I've owned Apple Computers since 1994 and I've had zero problems with them - no hard drive failures, no cracking, no screen failures. That would be 7 Macs, including both desktops and laptops that I've NEVER had to bring in to get repaired. In fact, just last month after I purchased a new MacBook Pro I finally stopped using a PowerMac G4 that I had been using since 2002 - that's 7 years of daily use on one computer.

And during the lifespan of those 7 Macs, I've never installed one piece of Virus software (hated the thought of updating virus definitions), never needed to defragments my hard drive, and hardly have to mess around with drivers, BIOS or any of that stuff Windows users have to worry about and maintain. And guess what, no viruses, no hard drive crashes and everything under the hood ran fine.

I still own each and every Mac I've purchased throughout the years. I can still boot each one up fine and they work just as they did when I put them to rest.

I use a Mac because I enjoy the OS and the hardware. If you enjoy using a PC then go ahead and use it!

I work from home, and I almost always have 3-5 or so that I use on a daily basis. 1 desktop, 1-2 laptops, 1-2 HTPC. I also buy machines for my company, so everytime anyone needs something new I get something new and they get what I just had. So, my turn around rate is pretty high.

A better Spec'd PC laptop is not necessarily a better laptop.

The example I always give is that I'd take a stock Lexus over a pimped out Kia any day. Sure, the Kia is 10x cheaper and has all the bells and whistles and is spec'd out to the limits, BUT, at the end of the day, the Lexus is a much better buy - even if I have to spend the extra moolah. Well, that's how i think of it anyway.

Oh, and I should clarify that I am not bashing your decision to switch or install OS X on a PC - I just wanted to provide an example of a positive Mac experience. In fact, I'd love to install OS X one of those netbooks. And for the record, I have built a PC in the past but Windows never did it for me, gave that computer away after less than a year.

A Dell story:
Dad got a dell desktop, turned it all in, plugged in his brand new ipod, and it fried it. Took the Ipod back, apple replaced it no worries, plugged the new one it, fried it. Tried again, they gave him another replacement, fried it. Thats apple giving out bout £1000 of ipod, even though it was due to no fault of their own. Thats good customer service.

I got almost the exact same experience. I got a late 07 mac book pro 15inch laptop bought it from a friend who paid 2,200 for it brand new 2 years ago. The battery died and stopped holding charges within a year.. so now i gotta keep it plugged in to use it. About a month ago, i goto turn it on, and the screen is black, nothing... i start looking thru forums and doing my own trouble shooting(turns out ton of ppl have this issue of the logic board going), then im on the phone with apple support then to the local genius bar. Turns out the logic board went, costed exactly $1,322.50 with parts and labor to fix!! I was very lucky to get it fixed free. I'm not sure if my friend had apple care protection, or the logic board received an extended warranty due to so many complaints. But it got fixed free so I was happy.
But now im nervous using it all i wanna do is sell it and get a new one with a warranty since i don't wanna lose my investment.
I do like the mac alot, but if i would of lost my whole investment, I dont think I would of been buying an apple again in the near future. But since they fixed it free, i'm somewhat satisfied. And will get another one just gonna make sure the warranty never runs out.

So now I use my old G4 PPC PowerMac. Still gets the job done, but takes a lot longer to do everything.
I've been trying to install OS X on a Toshiba Laptop, but I just get stuck on the grey Apple loading screen..

I'll never use any MicroShaft products if I don't have to.

yeah, I agree.
I have had my MacBook Pro for a little over a year and I still LOVE it. The only problems I've been having are with Photoshop CS4...I have so many fonts that it crashes sometimes, but that's not a problem with the computer.

I just mainly love how fast it operates and not having to worry about viruses. All of my PCs always had a new virus that bogged them down or rendered them inoperable...So, yeah I'll take my Mac, thank you.

Yeah, I'd be upset too. My friend had an issue with his battery...then his screen...then the disc drive all in about a year. The Mac store finally gave him a brand new Macbook Pro, an upgraded version of the older one he had. And they threw in Apple Care for free also. Only thing was he couldn't take the box from the new Macbook Pro. I've had my Macbook since 06' and it's still going strong. Stuff happens.......unfortunately.

My friend Mark uses a Mac. He's gone through an ibook logicboard, an ibook keyboard, the disc drive in his imac took his disc and wouldnt eject it. had to take it apart and replace the drive himself, because apple techs huff their own farts and think their services are worth an arm and a leg.
I like Macs and OSX is a pretty OS. I dislike mac users who insist their apple product is superior because they've yet to experience the joy of replacing a $400 logic board.

The statement below isn't being voiced directly towards you, but the mac user base as a whole.

As a new mac user I find the amount of ignorance mac users have towards virus' astounding. There ARE virus' out there for our macs, and they are becoming more of an issue.

The reason most hackers aren't developing virus' for mac is because they want to attack the majority, which is of course windows based machines. With mac users on the rise, it's not long before mac virus' become more frequently heard of. I beg you, don't think your machine is bullet proof because it's made by apple, we are just as vulnerable as PC users.

in my 14 year career as a designer ive used about 5 macs.
my last two iMacs that have only gone down because of a screen PowerSupply problem and a Harddisk fail... but they where easy fixes, the others still work/ed or went to the recycler happy macs.

i'm a PC as well. and i'd like to rant for a few mins because i'm trying to stay up so i can sleep in the car for an 8 hour drive soon.

yeah dude, i hate macs. they get you becasue they are so foreign to work. my Dell i know how to fix everything on it, i can run anything i want... SURE it takes it a seccond to render high res images, but come on. macs have that stupid circle that comes up... also i like my right click.

WHY HAVE ONE BUTTON MAC?!

i hate you and your fancy ways.

granted i like the big ones that take up your entire desk and its all built into the screen... i think thats cool, but to use it for anything other than garage band and playing with a synthesizer at best buy is just pointless. there are no imputs to use it for anything else.

i have a dell laptop vostro with vista... granted vista gets confused a lot, its still given me no problems because if it DOES, i save everything to my external anyway so if anything fucks up, 3 hours to fix with a reinstall of the OS, and if i get ENTIRELY pissed i can just install XP.

WUU HUU. i hate macs for trying to be so damn hard

only things i like about the mac: the Dock. and the look...

waaiiit... i can make my pc look just like it. and i can install stardock... for FREE. (Google that and clean up your desktop people.)

fuck macs.

i have a desktop sitting in my living room attached to a 42 inch lcd tv with an hdmi cable. and it OWNS. the pc is old and never gave me problems becasue i BUILT IT MYSELF.

and one more thing. i love it when people OWN macs think they should be like OOOOOOH i have a mac! i'm part of the Mac community!

like you need a support group for your piece of shit over expensive computer. that you really cant fix yourself if it breaks. theres a rule my dad taught me: if it has movable parts it WILL BREAK after a while. learn how to fix the problem and learn how to prolong your equipment.

hell i have an old laptop with xp with 1 gig of ram, 32 bit graphics card and it rocked the SHIT out of illustrator and photoshop cs3.

i also found a theme that made my pc LOOK just like an apple. so when i took it to school, my teacher told me i needed a mac, so i brought what i could. my pc. and i learned pc shortcuts, because whoever designed the command key is a fucking moron and just were trying to be difficult.

thank you for letting me rant people. i hate macs, but i can use the shit out of them if i have to.

i'll end with what macs are GOOD for. if you go to a school with a mac lab, you can "Cache" myspace using google and checkyour myspace from school. for those computers who block sites like facebook and myspace. only redeeming quality.

in regards also to Mac security...I would like to note that one of the very first "Viruses" to appear on personal computers was in 1981 on an Apple based computer.

I know before in the past I've said things that made me an apple whore, but I somewhat agree with this thread.

My 2 year old macbook pro's videocard went out a few weeks ago, took it in and had them fix it. When I got it back, my firewire port stopped working. Now I gotta take it in again.

Not to mention that my I needa get a battery replacement cuz my battery goes from 100 - 0 in like a matter of minutes. Pretty frustrating.

But honestly, I would work at the apple store (in which i am trying to get a job there right now) cuz they pay pretty well =) I need monies!

SURE it takes it a seccond to render high res images, but come on. macs have that stupid circle that comes up... also i like my right click.</b>
<br>
<br><b> 2: granted vista gets confused a lot, its still given me no problems because if it DOES, i save everything to my external anyway so if anything fucks up, 3 hours to fix with a reinstall of the OS, and if i get ENTIRELY pissed i can just install XP.</b>
vv</blockquote>

First of all, I bought my G5 about 6 years ago and not once have I EVER had a problem with ANYTHING. I have downloaded, created videos in Final Cut, recorded a whole album for my band, and used it as my main source for freelance design for 3 years. I can have ten programs open at once, freely interchanging between them through all forms of media (audio, video, graphics, etc.) and not have any form of slow down. With that being said...

1: Okay, maybe you know how to fix everything on your Dell, but what the hell? I don't need to fix shit with my 6 year old Mac. I know how to fix and navigate a PC, but why should you have to fix a virus on a fuck wad piece of shit PC? Why bother? Why not spend a few extra dollars to have a computer you can depend on for years and years? Any horror story involving a Mac is countered by thousands of fucking brutal and unexplainable PC melt downs. I have used both, trust me, PCs 1/10 of the time either fuck up for mysterious reasons or get clogged with bull shit internet viruses and porn pop ups. It seems to me, more so than the band wagon Mac fans, that there are more uneducated PC "advocates" that defend a dying and unstable platform just for the sake of not being a "trendy" Mac user.

2: Why the fuck would anybody in the modern age have to worry about spending 3 hours for their machine's mistake? Have you heard of Time Machine for the Mac? Guess not. The Mac is constantly thinking and working when you are too stupid to press Control-S. Maybe you should do a little more research, all of you.

The Mac on all fronts is by far the superior machine. Swallow your pride and stop defending a dying technology just because it's cheaper. That cheapness will get you a few months of semi-working bullshit of virus free computing. Without anti-virus and bullshit protection programs that the internet spews out at you every day, there is no way that computer will last longer than a year without any sort of defensive actions that must take place to salvage your work place.

I use HP all the way, I've never had trouble with any of their products. I used to work at Circuit City and literally over 50% of the computers that came in for repairs at our store were Dell's...when we didn't even carry them. As far as durability, I have ruled them out from my experience.

Mac's are just very overpriced shiny toys with limited functionality in my eyes. Sure they have a cool dashboard, and a bunch of "sweet apps"...but it's really just all flashy stuff with no substance. When I went to college in Boston, they gave us in the Arch/Eng program Mac's...I've never had more trouble in my life with a computer than that Macbook.

EDIT: And fucking YES to being able to "right-click"...why would Mac EVER decide to not implement that?

My HP has a quad-core processor, 4 GB's of memory, nearly a TB of HDD, awesome Nvidia graphics card, and everything else you could ever want (HDMI, Co-axle cable port, media bay plugin hard-drive slot...basically the works) and I got it all for under $700. I wouldn't get a machine half as powerful as that from Apple even at $2000 price mark.

I can't speak for Dilly Cakes but I've been defending the Mac since the early 90's. Back when many people predicted that the Mac would die off, go bankrupt or be bought by Dell. Back before it was trendy to use a Mac I had to defend myself for choosing Mac OS 7 over Windows 95. That's why I fight tooth and nail defending the Mac. Whenever a Mac vs. PC argument comes up I just have to defend the Mac, it's in my DNA.

For every time you right click, your left hand could be doing key commands while your free mouse hand could be moving on to it's next task. It's by far more efficient for people who can multi-task.

I am not fighting for the use of Mac rather than educating and sharing my personal experience with both platforms just as everyone else is.

Yes, with a 2 button mouse, which is not an included device with a Mac's contents at time of purchase. It's not a major issue, but it's just obnoxious.

I don't see how you can call PC's (or agree with calling Pc's) a "dying platform" when they still to this day control over 90% of the market while the Mac has been "trendy" for quite some time now. Well from how it appears in your response to that I Am Scumbag guy, you absolutely are fighting for the "use of the Mac". I don't think you could be doing so more blatantly in fact.

What superiority does Apple have over any high end PC company? You claim you can run multiple programs without your Mac getting sluggish...great...so can any PC with a decent graphics card. You complain about the virus aspect of owning a PC...download one of the many free virus protection programs out there that DO work extremely well and have it installed within 2 minutes and you never have to worry about it again. So for that 2 minutes of downloading AVG or any other decent enough virus program...you would rather spend an additional $2000 on a machine? Your choice, but doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I'm sure only 10% of the market is paying for those "cute" commercials...

You need to look no further than numbers released by NPD to understand Apple’s dominance. Its revenue share of the “premium” price market — that is, computers over $1,000 — is a staggering 91%. This means that 9 out of every 10 retail dollars that is spent on PCs in that price range, goes to Apple.

90% my ass.

Or because right clicking is typically just as easy if not easier for some applications? Why hold down Command+Click when you could just right click? Maybe I would rather just right click twice then hit ctrl+c, ctrl+v for a copy and paste. Preference does not equal inability...and why are you seemingly fighting tooth and nail defending Mac anyway?</blockquote>

For every time you right click, your left hand could be doing key commands while your free mouse hand could be moving on to it's next task. It's by far more efficient for people who can multi-task.

I am not fighting for the use of Mac rather than educating and sharing my personal experience with both platforms just as everyone else is.

I personally prefer the superior company.</blockquote>

Well from how it appears in your response to that I Am Scumbag guy, you absolutely are fighting for the "use of the Mac". I don't think you could more blatantly do so in fact.

Your choice, but doesn't make sense to me.</blockquote>

I shouldn't have to download anything to make sure my machine runs properly after I buy it. Why on earth would that shit not be available to me right out of the package? Not everyone is computer savvy as you and I, and if they go too long on a PC without downloading some bullshit program that is not needed on a Mac but IS absolutely crucial for the life of your PC, then their computer is fucked.

Let's put it into perspective. You pay for a suite in a hotel, you get what you pay for. You pay for HD over standard definition, because you want better quality. You pay for Gatorade over Power Aid because it taste better. You pay for Chili's over McDonald's because their burgers are real...

You pay for Macs over a PC because they are a better fucking computer.

PCs may be cheaper, but for longevity and quality, a Mac will give you much more. Especially in the career of design, audio, or video.

Either way, it's a moot point because Apple Computer have right click functionality. You can right click to your hearts content on a Mac.</blockquote>

A high price tag in conjunction with a clever ad campaign does not yield a great product by default.</blockquote>

90% my ass.</blockquote>

Well when 10% of the people are paying upwards of $2-3,000 for their computers, while the other %90 is paying typically between $500-$900 on their computers...,then yes, I believe they are paying for those commercials with ease. Two guys in a white room with a pseudo-clever script? Yeah, that must be enormously expensive...

However, what I though was common knowledge at this point was that Apple's revenue largely comes by way of their iPods...so their revenue stream to produce those said commercials should not be looked at merely in terms of their computer sales. But by the way...when a company ad campaign consists almost solely of disparaging other corporations, chances are that company isn't that great to start with.

Anyway, by that logic, your car should just come with permanent free gas that puts itself into your tank when necessary and services itself regularly. It's a nice concept, but most things in this world just don't work like that.

So as you said, let me put this into perspective for you. A Cadillac is a damn nice looking car with a hefty price tag...but it's a bit of a P.O.S. under the hood and typically won't last you more than 5-6 years. If something DOES go wrong with it, it's going to be quite expensive to fix as well.

The Mac may have it's software under control, but that doesn't mean that its hardware is any better than the PC.

Just as a side note as well...I've stayed at Marriot's for under $100 a night that were nicer than some $300 hotels. Price and name brand isn't the whole game.

Yeah, those gay "I'm a PC" commercials don't take any stabs at Apple. They are saints when it comes to disparaging other corporations.

This is besides the point though. Commercials and advertising of said companies is not the issue here. I'm not sure about you, but I design for a living, and I need a computer that can handle strenuous use every day from multiple programs and huge file sizes. I'm sure a PC would be great for my little sister or grandma, but that shit just doesn't cut it in my line of work, and in that instance the extra cash I paid for my computer doesn't matter. For 6 years of flawless use, I have more than compensated for the price of my computer.

As much as you may think I am a Mac "fan boy" which I may be considering I prefer Mac over PC. I have worked on both platforms for many years. It is solely the quality of the experience I gain from a Mac that decides my decision to defend it so avidly. Not their marketing tactics or it's popularity.

If you were to propose to me that a Cadillac would be problem free and run perfectly smooth for 6-7 years without any problems, then that would seem like a pretty kick ass deal to me. But if you were to propose that an ugly fuck mini van would cost me half the price and I would have to continually get it checked out and up to par CONSTANTLY. Then I would certainly take the more attractive and stable car.

When that company, Apple, started the personal computer revolution, they must be great to start with. Remember, prior to the Mac OS, PC's consisted of command line interfaces. Mac's brought the graphical user interface to the masses. And for that, you should be appreciative.

Have you not read any of my argument? Almost every one of my posts says something about needing virus protection. And also, as I've been saying...you are trading approximately 2 minutes of download time for virus protection for a $2,000 price tag increase. Also, why would you ever buy a computer with a shitty graphics card anyway...are you arguing just to argue at this point?

Especially in the career of design, audio, or video.</blockquote>

Jeez these quotes are getting long.

Price and name brand isn't the whole game.</blockquote>

Then I would certainly take the more attractive and stable car.</blockquote>

The Cadillac standpoint was designed around the idea that you can purchase a vehicle of similar or lesser value and have it run twice as long with the almost identical or greater performance. You can buy Corvettes/Chargers/Vipers/Jaguars/BMW's all for similar price tags or considerably less even and they will all outlast the Cadillac while still being superior in the sales department as well.

You want right click functionality, you go get a two button mouse or you go on living without one. Minor inconvenience.

You buy a PC, you MUST install virus software. It's not even an option, Window's would cripple in a heartbeat without said virus protection. Not such a minor inconvenience. Again, why isn't protection from such things built into Windows?

You talk a lot about the Mac just being all flash and it being trendy. However, at it's core - at its most default and stock core (i.e. no need to hop online and download freeware before you can do anything) - it's a much more secure device. Take away the flash and your left with a secure device. At the core of your windows machine, without the help of 3rd party software, you're computer would be gone in a flash. Go ahead, try and run your computer without virus protection for a month and lets see how long it lasts.</blockquote>

I'll even go one further for you...try operating a PC for less than a week without virus protection and see what happens. Of course it will get a virus...of course it will, it's a very well known fact that it will. I'm not arguing now, nor have I been, that the Mac's "standard safety" is inferior...just the computing power for the price. Find yourself a $3000 Alienware computer and I bet it will crush any $3000 Mac you can find. However, back on the right click thing again...I would rather download the free virus protection than physically have to leave my home and purchase a $30 piece of equipment for such a simple task as right clicking.</blockquote>

LOL, this is all getting a bit circular! But again, the $30 for the mouse is optional and non essential to the livelihood of a Mac. 3rd party virus software is a necessity to the livelihood of your PC. Doesn't it suck that the OS on your PC is dependent on 3rd party software just to survive?

$3000 Alienware? Oh, you mean that souped up Dell computer. Again, as I mentioned at the top of this thread: I'd go with a stock Lexus over a souped up Kia any day. In this case, that overpriced Dell (i.e. said Alienware computer) is the Kia and the Mac is the Lexus.

Let's not forget the for the premium you pay for the Mac, you get 1. amazing design, 2. a stable OS out of the box that isn't reliant on 3rd party software for its survival, and 3. an OS packed with amazing and intelligent software that simply works.

At the end of the day, the consumer decides whether they want to pay extra for superior design, stability and ease of use. If you like and enjoy your hardware superior device running Windows then more power to you. I, on the other hand, am more than happy to pay a premium for piece of mind.

I worked for about 6 months on a Mac, and was completely used to it within a week. It displayed everything nicely enough, ran smoothly and had a bunch of cute little functions, but that didn't make up for the HDD failure and the battery that always overheated within 30 minutes time after only 4 months of use. It was just a poorly built product in my experience. I received a new computer from the school (identical model) and had similar battery issues this time only about 2 months in.

I've also had SIX iPods within 4 years...and I use them maybe twice a week. Sure the warranty gives you a free one every time...but it doesn't bode too well for your company when you product is constantly breaking.

I love my Mac. I have had no problems with it. Since using it, I am now much more comfortable using ctrl+click to do things rather than right clicking. It works much better than my PC. Applications run smoother and crash less. I have grown accustomed to using iTunes, which was probably my biggest hurdle, after for the last 5 years using Windows and Windows Media Player. I would not switch back to a Windows computer given the chance. I am completely comfortable and satisfied with my Mac, and none of your stories or "I paid less and I got more" claims are really affecting me, because the Mac that I have now is great.

No, it was not cheap. Yes, I thought about it a lot. No, I did not buy it because "you have to buy one if you're a graphic designer, man!" I bought it because I felt after using one at school that it really handled the workload and type of work that I was doing a lot better than my PC. If your perspective on it is just "they're overpriced! it's the same fucking thing! i paid $XXX and i'm better than you! fuck!" then your claim really doesn't have much weight.

i love the flat screen imacs like its no body's buisness when i used them at school, but i walked over one room to the fat little monitor apples and they crashed like left and right. my only fear is of the worst. im a nerd when it comes to understanding my pc. and i love knowing i can fix anything that might try to happen to it. its only human :D

i'm SO unfamilliar with a mac that if it crashes, i'm stuck going to the damn mac store asking stupid questions looking like a retard. wasting my gas, and time.

i can use both, and i think we should know how to use both... but at the exact same time... i hate it when mac users who say they are part of some sort of "Community" its a support group. its ok, we're here for you too :D

i own a pc, i'd own a mac and use it for fun shit.

i just stick to my pc mostly because i play vista games that were made for microsoft. and i can get it to run smoothly.

also the fact that my mom paid for it for a birthday gift was a nice touch.

if i paid the price for a mac, i'd convince myself every day that it was a great buy. its what i'm doing now. lol. pay for something you want it to work, and you thank god it didnt break down.

hee hee.

i've said my words of input,

love you guys.

Either way, it's a moot point because Apple Computer have right click functionality. You can right click to your hearts content on a Mac.</blockquote>

A high price tag in conjunction with a clever ad campaign does not yield a great product by default.</blockquote>

But by the way...when a company ad campaign consists almost solely of disparaging other corporations, chances are that company isn't that great to start with.</blockquote>

For 6 years of flawless use, I have more than compensated for the price of my computer.</blockquote>

Yeah, no "respectable" designers would be caught dead on anything less than a Mac.

</sarcasm>

You talk a lot about the Mac just being all flash and it being trendy. I agree. The bottom line is that everything has built in obsolescence and Apple has perfected this business model. Whether Mac or PC you're gonna need to upgrade sooner or later. That's definitely a big part of it. The thing is, Macs are far too expensive to give them a second chance to get burned again. I talked to the store manager today and explained what went down. She apologized, which is nice, but that's all that happened. It only takes one time of bad service to turn me off. I can just build my own PC and not worry about any support and save a ton of money. I thought the hefty Apple pricetag included top notch customer service. That doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately.

for the record i didnt mean to imply that macs are immune to virus, i have just had a great time with it so far and love not having norton taking up half my memory and flashing things every two seconds. i still have a virus sweeper on my computer, i just run it once every few months for good times.

and, that apple bible slam was very nice but without that apple apparently they never would have gotten it on so id say more praise to the apple. regardless, its a bunch of malarkey

Ive had my PC laptop about 2 years, 3 complete crashes, but ultimately easily fixed.
Yes ive lost stuff, but i dont do design work, etc so its not a massive problem.

I could never justify the cost of a Mac, ever.

Ah the blue screen of death. Funny thing is, I've had one of those in my life. My Mac crashes way more for absolutely no reason sometimes.

At any rate, I bitched to the Apple store manager about the doucher I talked to one the phone. She expedited the process and my logic board was installed last night. Gotta go pick it up today.

I actually ended up talking to the idiot on the phone and upon speaking in person I realize he's just dumb. He was probably just rude unintentionally. I asked him a question and he just stared at me blankly and kinda half laughed. I had to actually say "hello" to get him to snap out of it. Weird and uncomfortable situation.
