Hi,
So Im totally new to emptees, though not to the t-shirt world. I am very close to completing my t-shirt design website and I just wanted to get a feel for how people might react to it.
Basically I feel design has enough of a cartoony feel out there with all the design websites like teefury and designbyhumans. I want to sell designer shirts you could wear to a restaurant... but at a REASONABLE price (nordstroms without the strain on your pocket : ). So rather than a monster, you may not even have anything on the tee but a line design for example. Of course it would have to look awesome too.
But what I sell really depends upon what the customer wants. I feel there is a serious lack of "fancier" style tees in the online market and I wanted to fill it. Let me know what you think.

ive worn ts to a lot of restaurants. why do i need a new website for that?
moser said 2 months ago
Thanks,
When the site is completed there will be an artist companion site similar to the teefury method. You will be able to register there.
moser said 2 months ago
what kind of tees did you wear? and which restaurant... sometimes I want to look a little nicer you know? but I appreciate the feedback. Im not knocking on anything cartoonish. Its just that niche is no longer available.
skull with hair said 2 months ago
i didnt think you were knocking anything. i was just trying to figure out exactly what kind of tees you were getting at. i have a sneaking suspicion that you are hinting at like club gear. lets see some examples!!

No longer available O_o?

not gonna lie to you, it sounds kind of dumb... but Ill do my best not to judge until I see what youre doing.

theres so many t-shirt design websites out there like threadless, teefury, designbyhumans, ugmonk, etc... that theres little need for more cartoony or imagination style shirts.
The style of shirt I am referring to are like the ones found in the Beautiful Decay line on this online store http://autumns.com.au/
DrewGliever said 2 months ago
oh I see.. well thats not dumb at all, but its nothing new.
moser said 2 months ago
ya, not all the way new.. but I probably wouldnt offer anything with a dinosaur or fruit saying something or whatever...
keep the feedback coming

You know to be honest when I think of fancy or dressing up "nicely" . . . I usually think of wearing dress shirts, polos, ties, button up shirts, blazers, argyle sweaters, sweaters, etc. Even then I wear shirts to restaurants anyway and maybe sometimes wear it over a shirt with a collar just to make seem a little more "fancy" . . . I mean I see what youre trying to do but I dont really see how its that much different.

I like where the Idea is coming from. However, I dont see how this would be anything new. Companies like Tank theory,
Rebel 8, something sacred, Fourth world, veece, and green apple tree (just to name a few lol) have been doing this type of design for a while. Are you looking to start another online tee contest site for this type of work? Because I feel that would be a market that has hardly been touched.
moser said 2 months ago
You hit it on the head pretty much. And also I would plan on starting with tees and expanding to more such as sweaters and collared shirts/

Cool. Keep me posted on your development would love to be a part of this as a designer.
Beautiful Republic said 2 months ago
So in other words, like Volcom, Hurley and those other companies?
moser said 2 months ago
For sure. When I hit testing stages Ill be looking for designers to start off the site.
moser said 2 months ago
Ya, like volcom and hurley, minus the big obtrusive logo and the huge hole in your pocket : )

Swanky, I dig.
moser said 2 months ago
Hey, Any more input would be awesome. Feel free just to +1 or -1 the idea.
moser said 2 months ago
Umm... if you read my earlier post youll see I said we plan on expanding into collared shirts...
Robmcbride said 2 months ago
I understand the concept, and at first thought it sounds quite good..
But.. If youre going out to a restaurant, youre either going to one thats not too fancy so it doesnt matter what you wear..
OR
If youre going to a fancy restaurant.. You were a proper shirt. Wearing a t-shirt is a bad move.
Unless you plan to design on proper shirts? And even then, its usually the cut and the colour of the shirt that matters, not the design on top. 'Cause shirts with designs on look terrible.
Just my two pense/cents on the matter.
Callum_Green said 2 months ago
it isnt completely based on restaurants.
Smart casually parties, that kinda thing as well i guess.
Mainly more "Grown up" tee shirt designs?
godmachine said 2 months ago
I wear this to a restaurant
Robmcbride said 2 months ago
I have one of those shirts. I never wear it.
ez-kun said 2 months ago
you want fancy and |formal|...wear a one-color tee with a jacket, or a polo, or something...you dont need designs, actually.

kind of like this>
and, how is dbh cartoonish? i can agree on threadless, but stuff like this??
moser said 2 months ago
how did this get off to restaurants. Im just talking about more grown up designs
quakerninja said 2 months ago
I dont want to burn any bridges, and say something dumb.
Hope this works out, I think Its good that you are aiming high and affordable.
All the start ups have had this line of playful jabs at the idea. Make it real, Make it work.
Ill be there.

if you are going to an outing of some sort and want to look classy, dont wear a tshirt regardless of the design. Usually "grown up" designs are on the plainer side as well. Also you said you wanted to move into doing oxford shirts, which also seems like a good idea at first but again anything other than stripes and just plain colors is not exactly considered grown up. The reason companies can sell the same striped and plain colored designs is because they have a brand name behind it, something that a shirt off of a site like DBH doesnt really have.
PS. Volcom and Hurley are not really grown up
just my 2 cents
illdthedj said 2 months ago
im actually working on some "fancy-pants" designs...
basically either texture or patterns full-printed, 1 color designs...probably in muted colorways, like dark gray on a darker gray or black...
actually, reading this, what i thought about at first was that wood grain tshirt some clothing company did recently. who did that tee? that seemed a bit more "mature" or whatever you want to call it.
GhostBird said 2 months ago
sounds kind of like what we do at www.enclothe.com
iotadial said 2 months ago
I like grown up designs. there should be more. Ill wear them to the bar. good luck.
jordolio said 2 months ago
so it will basically be Fred Perry?
I wouldnt have thought much designing is needed. might be wrong. dont you jus decide the colour and put a really small logo on the nipple area? lol
moser said 2 months ago
The style would be more brand oriented without the logo. We plan on featuring artists as well as having some competitions. The plan is to begin with tees but expand to collared, polos, sweatshirts, maybe even hats and board shorts. The clothes would be oriented toward design rather than being clever. And as of right now we are planning on having a new clothing article each weekday.
Oh, and we also plan on doing a different color each design
Keep the feedback coming
