wordpress spam filters

posted 2 months ago by seibei

I dunno if there’s already a post on this - if I missed it in searches, my bad!

ANYWAY, does anyone have any good tips or filtering out spam on Wordpress blogs? I get an absolute SHIT-TON of spam on my blog, and it’s not like the comments appear on the blog, but it’s a bummer to have to scan over hundreds of spam posts at a time to make sure they should be deleted.

I have loads of words in my comment filters (every prescription drug that is usually mentioned, porno words, casino words, shit that wouldn’t come up in conversation, etc), but it doesn’t seem to help much.

I know what you’re talking about when it comes to upgrading (I used to always put it off), but you probably should upgrade since there are security holes in the older versions which people have learned to exploit, meaning that your whole blog could be at risk to spam attacks and other nasty stuff.

Akismet is pretty awesome, though I’ve found that it sometimes incorrectly calls 'real' comments spam when they have a lot of URLs in them.
