My birthday its coming soon and i was searching for a decent digital camera(or semi-professional) in the price range of 300-400$.

Since there are some good photographers in here i thought they maybe can give some guide with these.

Also it will require that the camera can record video with a good quality for no so long, shorts footages.

Some things that i will use it for:

-Promoshoots
-Blog Pictures
-Short Footages
-Vacations and Landscape

Thanks

There are a few options you have to weigh out. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but neither of those two camera record video, as you have stated you wanted above. You also mentioned vacations. Personally, I bring a P&S and leave my DSLR at home on vacations, simply because I don't want to carry it around everywhere. A different couple things to look at.

If you do decide on a DSLR, make sure you actually try one out before you buy it. Get a feel for it in your hands before you make any decisions.

it's really nice, i'm not sure where you are from but $622 seems a little cheap (for australia), just make sure it comes with lenses, there are a lot of sellers that sell Body Only (no lenses.
I know professionals shouldn't be using Live View but just be aware this camera does not have the live view feature, most people just assume all new cameras have it without checking.

I really used live view on my XSi once. I was taking night pictures of Niagara Falls, and using it to zoom into where I could just barely make out the water, focusing, then taking the pic. I was pretty surprised I found a good use, but it was very handy to have. I couldn't see jack through the viewfinder.

Haha I agree with that last statement.

Yeah I also use a Nikon, and I love it. I like the feel and weight in my hand compared to most cameras. Also, the damn thing got sprayed with water, the flash got short-circuited, but it still works perfect. It does puff out a tiny smoke every time I use the built-in flash though (haha I really should get it fixed :\)

One thing I bitch about the Nikon is the lack of useful shortcuts on some cameras.

The Nikon d40 would be the best for you if you're looking for something semi-pro.

As far as DSLR's i prefer nikons as well, iv got a Nikon D50 (before they discontinued it) and its incredible

That being said, a $300 P&S is just as good when you use it right, and of coarse some Color correction in Ps. Id recommend going to your local Best Buy with a memory chip and checking em out, put your card into the one you test so you can take the test shots back home and see what looks best. I won a couple of awards for pictures i took with a P&S like 4 years ago, and they've defiantly improved since then

But get one that you can put in your pocket so you dont hafta carry it around everywhere

Also, most Point and Shoot's shoot good video

Prefer Nikon :)

For a good all around camera, I'm pretty impressed with this guy's stats. I don't own one and haven't used one, so it's not based on personal experience. I have used the previous model.
<a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665789079"><img src="http://www.inacod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/cyber-shot-hx1-main.jpg"></a>

It shoots 1080p, 9.1 megapixel, 20x optical zoom, 3.0" LCD, 1/2.4 sensor, optical image stabilization, all in a pretty compact (4 5/8" x 3 3/8" x 3 5/8") size with a plethora of gadgetry features.

All for under $500.

When I replace my P&S, I'll probably go with this camera's little brother.

Thanks for all the feedbacks.

The cheapest Nikon with video recorder its the D5000 i think(wich its amazing) and the price its around 700$.

Also the Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, has this features(400$ this one its winning so far i think):

HD Movie
12.1 mp
Image Stabilizer

I wanted to get all in one, instead of buying a hd camera in the future. Also i dont really know if an amateur in photography like me should get a camera worth more than 500$.

I have a Leica D-Lux3 which I have had for 3 years, this is a fantastic camera <a href="http://ifocus.fr/annonces/images/media_0.438974001216215670.jpg">Leica </a>
otherwise another which I am contemplating ( I am a camera freak!) is a Canon G10, look here <a href="http://a.img-dpreview.com/news/0809/canon/compacts/canon_g10_front_back.jpg">G10</a>

Two very good cameras, enjoy!
