Just now finished up something for Word! Apparel....

posted 2 months ago by awakendesigncompany

Hello everyone!
A lot of you guys commented about the old Word Apparel layout. Well, i’ve took a lot into consideration about it and it is now re-done.
I still have a few little extra things to add in there, but it is posted on his myspace now.

So if you left feedback (or didn’t lol) about the old layout i did for him check this new one out.
And show your support for his line, it’s beyond sick!

Thanks,
-Anthony Roe

I’d say do a bit more research into other clothing companies, think of a myspace as an advert to sell something, in word! apparels case- clothes.

Make the clothes the main point of the myspace, and remember, a brand name will only sell products once it has been strengthened, use the products to sell themselves at first, and strengthen the brand from that.

Don’t take anything i say as golden advice, i’m no expert, im just throwing in my 10cents!

you have GOT to work on your gradients, my friend.

the steps in all of your gradients are way too apparent.

    make them fools smooooooth.

also, work on your font choices. that scripty font all over the place is hard to read.

i do think its a step in the right direction though. keep it up anthony!

times new roman on myspace = not so hot.

i also think the whole point of myspace is so your customers can discuss stuff, disabling comments and just making it a website is kinda boring.

ye i think you should check out what other companies do

i always find nice photos and content driven layouts work best for clothing

your tees are hid in a scroll box they shuold be the focus

also it all looks huge like the font size i think if it was shrunken it would look more pro

well i told him to stray away from making the product the main focus because i plan on releasing ALOT of no product.

i want people to have to be directed to a site where they buy from, i dont want to them to look at the myspace and see the products and then leave and say ill look later.

if they get directed to the webstore, then everything is right there in their face, ready to purchase. that way they feel like its ok to buy right then

and its alittle bland, but i wanted it that way

its not done yet, still some flyers coming out, and some more stuff. but i wanted an organized, professional site

i still havent seen it by the way haha

and the updates section will be updated almost daily

Also I personally wouldn’t look at what other brands are doing with theirs, its good to have something different. I don’t understand why everyone wants to be the same. I do think its good to have comments and stuff visible though as that is the point of myspace.

The Times New Roman Im not a big fan of, Id go with Helvetica cant go wrong with it. Also when I look at the layout there isnt anything that makes me think about the Word brand besides the big logo, which to me doesnt really looks like it belongs on this particular layout. Also the color scheme is a little eh and I think the textures you used are kind of the same. Again the coding and layout of everything could work but the design needs a little more to it.

merchandise box is too small, you shouldn’t have to scroll to see the whole image of the shirts

also put some padding-top on the updates box for your text, it is too close to the edge

why in the world would i want my page to look like everyone elses?

thats like saying, you want to wear the the same clothing as everyone else

or drive the same car as everyone else

    people like different stuff

thats one reason why my company has grown alot in the past months. my stuff (well the designers i use) are different

i know alot of people on here dont like me, dont know why, but it doesnt matter, but being like everyone else kinda defeats the purpose of having your own line right?

No offense, but all of your myspace designs look like they are from 1997. YOU HAVE TO STAY UP WITH THE COMPETITION! Even if levi is doing new products frequently, the shirts need to be the focus (Cannot be in a little scroll box). Your myspace is often your first impression of a band or company and if you are not seeing their product right off the bat, they are going to leave right away. The layout in no way reflects the designS (And he has some amazing designs!) I like continuity between the layout and the shirt designs.

  28. levi! - Word! avatar

    levi! said 2 months ago

well i dont want the myspace to be the first impression of the company

it has to be right now while the website is being built but i want the website to be the point of contact

    or events that im at
    not myspace

kids get on myspace to interact, not to shop

  29. Corey - Corey avatar

    Corey said 2 months ago

I dont think everyone means go look at X’s layout and copy it. I think theyre saying look at successful lines and how they use their myspace to represent their brand and implement techniques they use in the layout that helps them be successful, into the design with your own style. If that makes any sense. I dont think theyre saying go copy the code to Glamour Kills layout or anything.

    I agree with this:

levi! said: kids get on myspace to interact, not to shop

I would think rolling out new stuff constantly would be a BIG reason to have those designs be the selling point of the page... i mean, if your gimmick is having new products constantly wouldnt the best way to display that be to show the products themselves?

just sayin... still havent seen the page =/

  35. levi! - Word! avatar

    levi! said 2 months ago

    thats a good point

i just dont want the myspace to be the face of the company

    myspace isnt serious enough

and this company is serious...(see what i mean?)

  36. LitoQ - Q avatar

    LitoQ said 2 months ago

oh yeah I definitely agree, but that doesnt mean cut yourself off at the kness...

just means make sure your company website or your store front have that extra wow factor... myspace is still huge in terms of getting your name out.

  37. robolove - Paul Richardson avatar

    robolove said 2 months ago

I use myspace as just a click through to my website really and to get a bit of feedback from customers on.

The main advantage to myspace is that posting a bulletin can have the same effect as sending out an e-mail to everyone on your mailing list.

I hate to agree, because you seem like a really nice guy.. but it does kind of seem that way.

your coding is always super legit and flawless, but there’s something about your layouts that doesn’t look too modern.. I think what he meant by '1997' is that they look so rigid.. it’s a series of boxes.

find that one thread where everyone was posting awesome layouts, and study them to the core.. and even if you don’t do that, I’m sure you’ll get awesome with time and practice.

also, buy a few graphics/design books for a bit of inspiration.

Thanks man, I totally forgot about that when coding it, But anyway This layout doesn’t have friends or comments. So you shouldn’t be worried about the scroll bars. Just code two different column and let those suckers stretch out. It should look a lot cleaner and most scroll bars look ugly.

I totally agree with everyone about your coding, it is very clean and looks sharp. Levi...while your myspace may not be your primary focus, it has to be up to par with your website. Kids are going to find your myspace before they find your website (unless you are doing targeted marketing). While it is just a social site, kids can much easier spread the word (no pun intended) about your clothing line than through your website. You gotta utilize every avenue even if it is not your primary site. The shirts have got to be more evident on the page.
