Hey buddies -
So, Laurence King Publishing, who brought you the books 100% Cotton, 200% Cotton, and 300% Cotton, are putting out a new book called TEES. Its another book featuring tee designers, and should be out by next Spring.
Anyway, Im going to be in it. While uploading stuff to their FTP for my photo spreads, I noticed two other Emptees names - I dont wanna steal their thunder, so I thought Id ask: Who else got in the book?
Im sure there are plenty of other Emptees kids that will be in it - they only just recently told people if they got in or not.
When I started, one of the first books that got me really into tee design was 200% Cotton, and I told myself that Id be in a similar book someday. So, hooray for me, I can check that one off the list.

What do you think is the best book, 100 200 or 300% cotton?
Ive seen them on amazon but wasnt sure if they were any good.
RikkiB said 2 months ago
Ive got 200%, it put me on to many artists Id not heard of before... good stuffs.

Congrats!

200% is my favorite, followed by 300%. 100% is good but its pretty dated and the authors didnt really seem to hit their stride until 200%.
The books are a little all over the place - SquidFire was featured in 300%, but, there are tons of lines that have made a bigger impact that havent, like Johnny Cupcakes or MISHKA or Monsieur T or Goodie (but maybe theyll be in this one?). No Star was in one of them, Im pretty sure.
Anyway, I dunno if this post will get enough attention, but regardless of what you think of me, the other (at least) two Emptees kids that are in it are pretty well-regarded here. Hopefully it will be an interesting read, and someone whos just starting out will see my work and say, "Jesus, if that asshole can do it, certainly I can."

is dobi one? would make sense.
seibei said 2 months ago
I think Fullbleed was in one of those books already - he isnt either of the Emptees kids I saw on the FTP, though.
skullface said 2 months ago
Goodie should be! shit is huuuge (:
seibei said 2 months ago
the good companies theyve left out could fill a couple more books, and theyve included some ehhhhh ones in the past, but I guess its a matter of taste.
dobi said 2 months ago
never heard of it, was I in a book?
seibei said 2 months ago
I guess if you havent heard of it, maybe not? I coulda sworn that Fullbleed was in 200% Cotton or 300% Cotton, but youd probably be the final authority on whether you were in a book or not.
skullface said 2 months ago
and congrats to you, Mr. Seibei!

I was invited ages ago (I even sent mockups for when they were pitching the book to the publishers), but I havent heard back yet.

:)
seibei said 2 months ago
whaaaaaaaat? If you havent heard back, hit them up. They told me the selection took longer than they thought (a few weeks longer actually, I was sure Id been rejected), so maybe they forgot to get back to you?
Moss said 2 months ago
No worries man, they probably just didnt like my stuff enough for the project.
sockmonkee said 2 months ago
im glad you started this post...i was wondering who else is apart it

... I want to be in a book one day, that would be bad ass. And congrats to both of you dudes, totally deserve it.
Moss said 2 months ago
Oh and I was in 300% too so I think Ill be ok.
seibei said 2 months ago
Oh rad! I havent looked through it in a long time (I think an artist I knew borrowed it, and then I moved 400 miles away and forgot to get it back); Ill have to check that out.
thanks for the love, guys.
Yeah, now that weve got access to the FTP its interesting to see who else is in. Honestly, I havent heard of most of them, but the stuff Ive Googled looks promising.
I just emailed the other Emptees cat I saw on there to see if he wanted to pop in and say "HEY GUYS IM IN THE BOOK TOO".
...and just got an autoreply from his email saying hell be away for a week or so.

Still waiting for a couple of hi-res pictures.
So far I have purchased 2 tee books. 100% Cotton and T-Shirt Factory. Theyre both pretty good.

Congrats seibei! How did you find out about the submitting art for the book? Im on Laurence Kings Pattern book but didnt know about the shirt book. Too bad.. really wouldve wanted to get on that one.
For the guys who want to get on books. Just email the big publishers and they usually need artists to regularly submit for their upcoming book titles. Check out these guys. Ive been invited/featured in some books by these publishers:
Hong Kong
http://www.victionary.com
Germany
http://www.gestalten.com/
UK
http://www.laurenceking.co.uk
Spain
http://www.maomaopublications.com/
Ive also been on a couple of the Semi-Permanent books. They have regular artist submissions.

Which semi permanent? going through my books now!
seibei said 2 months ago
oh wow, thanks AJ!
the illustration/design duo MAKI (theyve done a shirt for Go Ape, stuff for Threadless, shirt.woot, books, etc) contacted me sometime over the summer about submitting to the book.
No idea where they saw my stuff; I assumed they had just picked out people they like from Emptees or maybe Rumplo, but whoooo knows.

Have any of you guys been in "T: The Journal of T-shirt culture" yet?
If you havent heard of it, T is a magazine all about tees that is released every 6 months, its pretty cool, though Im a little faux-pissed that they keep neglecting to put HYA into their website section when theyve listed a lot of other tee blogs that are waaaay smaller than HYA.

I just got an email from another Empteer that is in the book, and he said its totally cool for me to mention that hes in it (he just got back from his honeymoon and wont be back on here for a few):
Jeff Finley.
Anyway, thats pretty rad.
Also, has anyone ever read Street T? Theres a nice picture of Olly Moss in the Threadless section. I feel like that books a little hit or miss on the companies it features, but it does a good job of getting a very international cross-section.
Moss said about 1 month ago
Street T? Eh? Whats this about me?
seibei said about 1 month ago
Theres a nice feature on Threadless, and there is a two page spread with loads of model shots from the site, including one of you...lemme run and grab the book...its a brown shirt with ghosts or something on it and you look like youre dancing with a plastic bag?
Moss said about 1 month ago
Oh haha. Thatll be Simon Noynays select. I look like a skeleton in that photo.
justgeoff said about 1 month ago
I would have no business being in that book! haha
Congrats seibei and Finley. Cant wait to check it out!
herman said about 1 month ago
Nice, Freshfauxx is in it.
Moss said about 1 month ago
Just got word today. I am in the book, but they were happy enough with the spreads I originally sent them that they didnt need any new work.
sockmonkee said about 1 month ago

Seibei
Moss
Freshfauxx
Jeff Finley
