So I read the pity party post and just wanted to talk a little bit about sales over the web. I was there to, started a shop, no one came to it and I barely got any sales.

For most of you I would say it has nothing to do with your brand, product, or anything like that. You just need more traffic. The more traffic the more sales. Also targeting your customers will increase your conversion percentage.

So how do you get more traffic.
Blogs - It helps if you have a cool product which most of you have. Then you just contact the blog owners and have them post about you.

The dude at Rethink markets everything really well. I've seen him on uncrate and a bunch of big blogs.

Link exhanges - you got buddy's? Do a link exchange.

Blog it up - don't talk about just your clothing company talk about what your customer is into. Making good content will get you a lot of google traffic with SEO.

Myspace, twitter, facebook, to it up keep the content pumping out.

Just get out there and make it happen.

Actually most big blogs don't require that you send them free stuff. If you want to send them a free tee I'm sure that they will be very grateful LOL!

It looks like that a lot of times that why I haven't wrote to a blogger yet don't need to lose stock and never hear a word about my brand or the bigger blogs like hypebeast mostly post known brands only

The bigger shirt blogs don't give you that much traffic anyway. Your on the front page for a day or two if they post a lot.

Yeah this is totally not the case for most blogs. Most of these cool cats do this because they like shirts and not just to get free stuff. I have had one or two that will only post if you send them a free shirt. You can tell though, their sites usually aren't as good because their heart isn't in the right place

Here is one of those culprits. He makes you send in a shirt and will even talk shit if he doesn't like it. I am not a fan of him at all.

<blockquote><cite>CHAZZY said:</cite> can someone better explain seo? I understand the general idea of it, but I don't know how to use it in terms for my specific company. my company is just starting out so i cannot afford an entire website yet. do social networking sites like myspace, facebook, twitter etc give you seo or should i be taking different steps towards this?</blockquote>

SEO uses keywords in the text of a website but also in the different HTML tags within the source data. The latter of which you're really only going to get with your own website. In my opinion having social networking sites will help but it's not a solution. You really want something that's all about you. I make websites for small businesses and people who want to get their first taste of an online presence so let me know if you need more help.

my traffic is somewhat high, but im sure not as high as alot. not too many blogs post about me. no link exchange...

but my conversion rate is really high

i think the product has alot to do with it. its people buying it on a whim. if they product is good, they wont sit back, and then say "you know what, ima wait" you want them to buy it the minute they see it. have a great product. get sales. thats my view. then once you have high traffic, you will be sitting pretty

true. if you are gonna have a successful line, you gotta work. not just think shirts are gonna naturally sell. tell everyone you know. i was at a university party tonight, and i told some chick i owned the company that made the shirt i was wearing, and she was all about. she seriously made me find a computer at the house so she could order. and ofcourse i found one.

just do work. thats the main thing. work your butt off

Don't waste your time, I sent him a free shirt and we got a total of 6 hits! The guy also does so many postings in a single day that in less than 12 hours of him posting a picture of our shirt we were already page 3. That really sucks. I already told this to Jason, but that kid needs to learn a lot about promotion if he's going to keep doing that. He put NO enthusiasm into the post whatsoever. (Come on! You got a free shirt kid!) Plus his picture DID NOT do the shirt justice. It's like a myspace mirror pic. And then, as Jason said, he posts too damn much. Posts get buried in a matter of hours. Unprofessional kid looking for freebies.

He must either lurk here or just go through Big Cartel looking for stuff that he wants for free...

You can't really blame blogs when they use bad pictures or don't talk about the stuff you wanted them to. Make a media page with all your images they can use, send them a bio, and everything they need to write a detailed article about you. Most bloggers won't spend the time so you have to do some of the work for them.

But yeah good idea about producing images/words for them ahead of time.
