I’ve been thinking about it for a while.
I’m not so familiar with macs, but I hear so many good things about them. Especially with designing and all.
but yeah money definately a tough subject right now.
I have never actually owned a mac but I am an aspiring producer and we used them for some short films I have worked on and what not,and I have jumped on some friends before to check it out and play with garage band.
Anyway what I’m asking is, is it really that much better for use outside of design. I used to do a lot of design but now I am on the business end of things more and have people who design for me.
I am on the computer all day reviewing things, emailing, organizing, all sorts of things but not so much designing.
Is it worth it?

For that sort of thing, i’d stick with a PC, really, there’s no use for a mac with that sort of programs. Apples do have a lot of power and versatility, but if you’re doing silly business stuff, stick with a pc.
Apples are good for design, music, video that sort of thing. they CAN do business stuff, but it’s a waste.
Apple has a pretty good payment plan, if you can qualify for the credit account.
Yeah, If I did use credit I was thinking of going with the Apple credit card, or the option they have. But I’ve been kind of leaning towards cash…because I don’t want to get skrewed over by interest.
Needless to say, I’m not familiure at all with credit cards.
Ordering online is better…you have more options as far as customization goes. As for the student discount, do it. Choose any random college and you’ll get a couple of hundred bucks saved.
If you work in an office, they’re rare.
Come to another world where the streets are paved with Macs…
I get so fed up of preaching to people about how they NEED to own a Mac.
That’s a lie, I never get bored of it.
PC RULES ALL WITH AN IRON FIST! at least for gamers … but Mac is totally in front with music/art production. I’ll always have my pc for my games though.
I would have to say yes…it will be the best decision of your life. You will never want to look at another PC again! I got a Mac Book Pro a year ago, and I believe it helped promote more creativity in everything I do, whether it’s business, design, photography, whatever. Where in a windows environment, creativity is significantly dampened by a very dull and somewhat robotic and confusing user interface. Apple all the way.
Okay, before i get flamed six different ways from sunday, I use a mac all day for music production, and there are many more around the studios used for sound/video production. Now there is a lot of dogma around Macs being awesomely better for design and AV production, but in my opinion its somewhat unjustified and people should be more objective.
I mean why do I use a mac? well most importantly the program i use isn’t available on PC. Yes, it offers good performance, but you have to pay through the roof for it, a quite frankly you can get an equally well spec’ed pc for a fraction of the price. And these days they really don’t offer bulletproof reliability – intel processors and all. Go have a look at the apple support forums if you don’t believe me. In fact i recently had the cooling system burst sending my mac the great mac heaven in the sky (although it must be stated this is a rare thing to happen, but still!)
So how is a mac ACTUALLY better for design? I have photoshop/illustrator at home on pc and i have to say it works exactly the same as photoshop/illustrator on a mac – well minus the previews for adobe files in wins explorer(finder); and the fact font management on a pc is hideous…but if i was a struggling designer i’m sure i could live with these for the cost benefits…

I dare someone to say “Nah, PC’s rule.”
I dare them even more to say it with a straight face.

All I have to decide now is to:

I’d like a mac too, but I would NEVER abandon my pc, I would have one of both, there’s stuff that macs do better than pcs and vice versa.

i got my macbook at best buy for $1600 on their card, no interest for 6 months, it’s a good deal.

I don’t think there is any store near where I live that sells macs. The closest is Orlando I think…9 hours away. So I’ll have to order online.
mitchbones said about 1 year ago
Andrew, are you a student? If so you might be able to get atleast a $200 discount.
I am getting one for my graduation present. Is the Pro a must have?
