    <body>So I read the pity party post and just wanted to talk a little bit about sales over the web. I was there to, started a shop, no one came to it and I barely got any sales. 

For most of you I would say it has nothing to do with your brand, product, or anything like that. You just need more traffic. The more traffic the more sales. Also targeting your customers will increase your conversion percentage.

So how do you get more traffic. 
Blogs - It helps if you have a cool product which most of you have. Then you just contact the blog owners and have them post about you.

The dude at Rethink markets everything really well. I've seen him on uncrate and a bunch of big blogs.

Link exhanges - you got buddy's? Do a link exchange. 

Blog it up - don't talk about just your clothing company talk about what your customer is into. Making good content will get you a lot of google traffic with SEO.

Myspace, twitter, facebook, to it up keep the content pumping out.

Just get out there and make it happen.

So I've run into a lot of people talking the talk, gloating about how well their company is doing, or trying to get me involved with their project.

If I don't know you I will be skeptical and look at a few things that will let me know if you are full of shit : )

Alexa Ranking

Go to www.alexa.com and pull up their site. I've run a bunch of different sites so I know how much traffic a site is getting compared to what their alexa ranking is. For example the ranking of this site is 235,304. I get 18k in visitors every month.  Around 1-2 million in ranking will be a thousand to a couple thousand hits. Also look at the traffic Rank for 7 day and 1 month. If they are just starting out it takes a while for their three month average to go up but they could be getting amazing traffic right now.

Page Rank

Google uses it to tell how much value to place on your site and I use it the same way. Page rank is calculated by google and gives you a rating from 0-10 depending on how many link backs you have. So if you have a 2 or below I know you aren't linked from a lot of websites.

This really gets me a good overview on how well a company is doing. Sometimes they run on subdomains, like if they have a bigcartel store, and alexa just calculates the ranking for bigcartel.com and not the actual store. By the way, you can have your own domain on bigcartel by using cnames. So now you are equipt with a bullshit detector, use it wisely.</body>

A lot of commencement are really bad an uninspiring. I've only read the first one but I'm sure they are all really good. 


When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything - all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

    <body>My first thought is to do bright pink on the dark gray AA shirts. I think it's called zinc. Then I started thinking more and this is for dudes so the pink may be off putting to the market I am going after. I think the bright pink will look awesome and totally 80's but I have to think of what my customers will want. There is also another version at the bottom. 

Still needs a little more work but I am happy with where we are at right now.
