Hopefully this can get added to the Look Before You Post sticky.

If you're going to post a cattle call for designers, follow a few simple guidelines that will help save everyone some time as well as make you seem a bit more professional.

1) Post your contact information (name, email, website, etc..) clearly in the thread.

2) State what kind of design style you're looking for. Don't just say "I'm looking for some designs". Again, save everyone, including yourself, some time and post what type of designers you're looking for.

3) Lastly, and most importantly, POST YOUR PRICE. Again, save everyone some time. If your budget is $100 that's going to attract a different type of designer than if your budget is $400. No sense in hiding it. It's going to come out sooner or later, so go ahead and just be up front.

I promise if you follow these simple guidelines, you'll have a much more enjoyable Emptees experience and will gain a lot of respect because of your professionalism.

Copy and pasted from my blog

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Go Media to be part of their new campaign for their upcoming art campaign, Weapons of Mass Creation.

Here's the lowdown:
We invited top artists, illustrators, print designers, and web designers from all over the country to come to our studio in Cleveland to participate in a photo shoot for the art campaign “Weapons of Mass Creation”. The purpose of the campaign is to give artists and designers we respect the opportunity to showcase their own work and send a positive, unified message to the community. The final ad will appear with an incredible shot of the designer standing in front of his or her own work next to the headline “I am a Weapon of Mass Creation”.

To kick off the campaign, we hosted a photo shoot with rock ‘n roll photographer Chris Casella. Chris is a great photographer known for his photo shoots with Slash, Slipknot, Disturbed, and a whole load of other mainstream bands – and he made us look like rock star designers!

When not getting the rock star treatment in front of the lens, designers were trading merch & business cards, eating pizza, filming video interviews with Go Media information architect Liz Hunt, or playing Wii bowling. It was a great time, and we really hope to host a sequel with an even larger crowd!

Here’s a list of attendees:
Haley Saner
Mark Weaver
Chad Lenjer
Horsebites
Oliver Barrett
Chris Comella
Angryblue
Adelle Charles & Joshua Smibert
Aaron Sechrist

Nicole Sciacca
Dave Garwacke

Here's a few candids from the event.

I was pretty stoked to be invited to this event. Being included in an event with these impressive creative talents is quite an honor. It was really great meeting other designers and talking shop. I was especially excited to meet the Go Media crew and to talk with Angryblue, Horsebites and Chad Lenjer, who are tremendous artists that are in the same industry as myself. It was a great day. I made some new friends and had a lot of fun hanging out. I can't wait to see the photoshoot pictures. I was pretty silly during my photos, so they should be pretty amusing. Stay tuned for more information about Weapons of Mass Creation.

Long rant, sorry.

I'm officially done with Macs and any Apple product, for that matter.

I currently have a 1.5 year old 17" MacBook Pro. At the time I bought it, it was their flagship laptop.

A month ago I took it in because my battery was swollen, which made it impossible to click on the trackpad. Not a huge deal, I guess. Of course for a $3000+ laptop I'd expect better quality and durability than that. But still, with AppleCare I was able to get it replaced and all it cost me was a trip to the Apple Store to deal with one of their "Geniuses", who apparently wasn't genius enough to just look at the warped and bloated battery to know that it was the issue. Instead he had to run a whole system diagnostic to find out, EUREKA, the battery was shot.

Fast forward to last week. No less than 20 times my computer would totally freeze up. The picture looked like some shitty 80s 8-bit video game. I'd have to restart it numerous times to get it working. Take it to the Apple store and they tell me my logic board (fancy name for a motherboard) is hosed. Now this is my work computer. It's not my only computer, but it is my main work one, nonetheless. I'm going to be out of commission until at least Sunday, they tell me. In the meantime I keep the laptop and work on it sporadically, at best.

I called in today to ask if the logic board has come in, since I was told it would be here today. The "genius" says it isn't in. I ask when I can expect it and his answer is "it'll get here when it gets here" and I hear him give a little laugh. I ask "that's the answer you're going with?" and he proceeds to tell me how a part is ordered and delivered as if this is all a foreign concept to me. I just hung up.

Needless to say, I'm done with Apple products. I have an $800 Dell that is 3 years old that has NEVER had an issue. I bought what was supposed to be the be all end all in laptops and it's given me nothing but problems. Don't get me started about how many times it crashes out of the blue for no reason.

In the end, Apple is a hype machine that should spend more money on R&D and a little less on cute commercials that personify their computers and operating system. OSX is nice but I can hack a PC (that is twice as powerful and half the price) to run it, so it's a moot point now.

Hate to post this but the thread we were having the discussion in (http://emptees.com/posts/69801-fan-art-and-what-i-can-cant-delete) has been locked. I think there were some valid points in it and we should discuss this a bit more.

At any rate, I'm concerned about quality control as much as anyone else here, but I think the way to handle it is to have people be more involved. Comment on more tee designs. Voice your opinion! The designer will either step up their game or give up. This will spill over to other designers. They'll see that if you post crap you're going to catch some shit for it. When I first joined this site EVERYONE commented on tees being posted. You were forced to step it up or close up shop. I understand that there's way more tees being posted than there was 2 years ago. Still, we can all do a bit more commenting/critiquing. Just deleting their design does nothing for anyone.

I think EVERYONE (myself included) need to comment on more tees and get more involved in the community. Just starting threads and making posts isn't really being involved. We all need to start providing more critiques to artists. Otherwise this site will become like Deviantart. It'll be a ton of crap with a few gems here and there. The respected artists will probably move on due to the lack of talent and this site will be overrun by mediocre designs.

Again, deleting them isn't the answer. Educating the designer through constructive critiques is the way to go. If you guys and gals want a community then you have to make it happen yourselves. Bitching about it isn't going to change anything.

I'll step off my soapbox now.

I just submitted this to www.youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com

I've been ripped off by some lowlife, chimunx666, on Flickr. I created this design about a year and a half ago. At this point it's Weezer's property, but still I get a bit pissed when someone decides to take MY artwork and call it their own. How this guy even calls himself a designer is beyond me.

My design, which was created about a year and a half ago.

Here's the designs "created" by chimunx666

Hopefully this helps expose this jerkoff and prevents other people from getting ripped. I'm pretty sick of "designers" having this sense of entitlement to take other people's work and pass it off as their own.

I hate to make a thread about this but I need some honest feedback.

I'm starting work on a design and am debating about chronicling it step-by-step to show my whole work process. I'm not trying to be self-aggrandizing, though it would be good exposure for me, so it's not a totally magnanimous venture. More than anything, I like seeing artist's thought/work process and thought maybe some of you would get a kick out of seeing mine.

At any rate, is that something that anyone would actually be interested in seeing?

So I just watched the Garbage Pail Kids movie last night. I haven't seen it since I was 9 or 10. Wow, that movie did NOT hold up well at all. There's still some funny parts but I remember it being WAY cooler when I was a kid.

That is all...

This is so dumb, but I'm striking out on my own. I'm looking for this pair of Vans in a size 11. Does anyone know where I can definitely find them in a size 10.5 or 11? All I'm finding is 8 or so in all my online searches.

I figured if anyone knew about shoes it would be on a tee shirt community!

Here's 2 peeks at 2 shirts I'm working on. I'll post 'em up in the tee section once they're printed.

Does anyone have a basic Myspace band layout, you know the one where it has a cool banner on top.

I need to put one together for my 80s cover band but don't have the ambition to code it from scratch. I'd just like something where I can just plug in the header, background, etc...

Hopefully someone can help a brotha out.
