My first post on Emptees...
New design for Protest The Hero. Hand drawn, scanned, vectorized, + made purdy.
It was just approved + should be going to print soon for their upcoming tour. Not sure what color scheme they are going with, but I like this regurgitated colors best!

i've thought you were awesome since you did the "age of reptiles" album art, most radical illustrations ever

Cutthroat said 7 months ago

LISTEN to PTH!!
LaurieShipley said 7 months ago
Naw, I didn't trace it manually. I scanned in my ink drawing then used the auto trace function in ILLUS CS3. Pretty amazing lil feature...!
Thanks Jeff. Been a while since I've talked to you, you're stuff is looking rad :)
Awesome, I see some PTH stuff on your profile. Good stuff!
I had an idea for a tee, a zombie 1980's My Little Pony on a yellow shirt with zebra stripes in the background. Damn you! You basically have that idea in 2 different shirts. Ahhh Haha
chrisrushing said 7 months ago
ok nice... yeah your lines are crazy clean for autotrace to do it that well. I try to manually trace as much as possible. Do you use india ink? ... I'm trying to get cleaner and just can't for some reason... but i'm only working in my moleskine... maybe i need to bring it to a bigger canvas.
LaurieShipley said 7 months ago
It takes me forever to draw the thing out, there is no way I could spend the time manually tracing it. Haha I did the original drawing pretty big to begin with and I usually can tweak the auto trace enough to achieve what I need.
I usually use an assortment of ink pens, micron and even gel point bic pens, etc. I use india ink occasionally + definitely for large spaces. I like to use what I have lying around, ha.
chrisrushing said 7 months ago
yup i use microns, bics, etc... i think i just need to go bigger. thanks for the replys.

ooh oooh
im glad you guys are having this discussion, i have the same issue chris, what kind of paper do you guys use, im just using strathmore bristol and it seems to bleed a lot, which makes the lines scan ugly.
LaurieShipley said 7 months ago
I assume you tried using several kinds of pens on the bristol? I don't use anything specific, I usually use cheap drawing paper.
Though, if I want to keep a nice drawing then I might use bristol or illustration board, but I'd be spending too much if I did that with every tee shirt design. OMG Am I cheap?! ;)
And your stuff definitely looks way cleaner than mine, so you seem to have it down!
derekdeal said 7 months ago
hmmm, maybe i should just relax
derekdeal said 7 months ago
i love your profile quote by the way,
probably my favorite from the movie with the exception of
"paging mister herman, mister herman you have a telephone call at the front desk"
chrisrushing said 7 months ago
a lot of mine is hand vectored, not auto traced... not all though.
nadameansnothing.com said 7 months ago
the only thing i can say is:
WOW
justgeoff said 7 months ago
Not cheap at all. Hell, I have 2 pads of Bristol that I've had for over a year that I haven't used. It's too expensive to make a mistake on.
LaurieShipley said 7 months ago
There are so many opportunities in life to quote that movie. Or maybe thats just me? Lava it!
Cutthroat said 7 months ago
hahaha that's hilarious!
do it up anyways, i'd be interested to see it
