PATD - Something tee shirt design by derekdeal - Derek Deal

designed for the band, approval pending, i probably wouldnt have taken it on if the design spec sheet didnt spark my interest. words like 'big fish' and 'dr. sues' ring a bell. Instead of doing anything too literal i just started sketching and this came out.

panic, popcorn, fuzzy, daisies, balloons, wings, mountains, purple, penis, gold

yeah it took a little bit, but i like meticulous textures sometimes

no word yet, if i dont hear anything by tommorrow its officially released to do what i want with, just got tired of keeping it caged.

you just inked this and scanned it in? how in the world did you get your lines so clean with auto trace...mine always look like shit?

no autotrace, lines are clean cuz i drew em and marked em clean and scanned them in at really high res. there's a great tutorial by brian ewing on his flickr page that shows his process. He's old school, ink and paper, and you'd swear all his stuff is done in illustrator.

sometimes i mix it up though, not saying its the best way all the time.

yeah I agree....but it's just such a good mix of hand drawn and vector...that's the reason I like it so much...i'll google him and find that tutorial...thanks man!

yeah, its more about the traditional inking process than anything, but it gave me a lot of insight as to how meticulous some illustrators are with their work.

a lot of my designs end up being really narrative, so i got into this one. At this rate i think its just going to end up a portfolio piece, which is unfortunate. I was trying to branch out, but Ill probably stick to bands i listen to for now on.
