First shirt I ever got printed a couple years back. I made 50 of them, had them for sale over Christmas at an art gallery, and I sold... three.
$15 of which 40% was the gallery's cut.
It totally sucked. Over the next year or so I gave them out, sold a few here and there, etc.
I didn't design any more shirts or print any for about a year.
Moral(s) of the Story:
1. Have somewhere to sell your shirts. It's not necessarily that your shirt sucks, it's the market.
2. Don't let the printer convince you into Gildan 6 oz. They feel like frickin cardboard.
3. I had this printed with 5 colors. Now that I have learned separations, I could do it 2.
4. You can do wonderful things with minimal colors.
Here's a redo version using only one color I did a year later on a soft AA ringer. They sold like hotcakes. It was also a seam to seam print too, which sucked to hand press.

thanks brah.
2. when art is taken to screens for print, all the color have to be separated into individual screens. say if someone was printing the american flag... they would need
a white screen
a red screen
a blue screen
each screen is only open where the ink will flow.
most time its easy to separate shirts these days cause most people design flat color, no gradients etc. but if you have photo real stuff, non CMYK, then it gets harder. heres a tutorial on index seps on such imagery. dont know if it will enlighten you...

3. i dont know. it was stupid in hindsight. cause the photo of the hot chick would definitely make people click. meh. i dont think sometimes.
