Carroll originally included this quote in the postscript text, but it was not understood by editors (as a typographical error) and was later rid of in the books. Nevar is raven backwards. :)
Poe wrote on both.
Both are a bird except the desk.
conor will tell you there is no answer :)
conor said about 1 year ago
Kolby, you cant just copypasta the part of the text you like because it has the answer you want!
"Enquiries have been so often addressed to me, as to whether any answer to the Hatters Riddle can be imagined, that I may as well put on record here what seems to me to be a fairly appropriate answer, viz: "Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!" This, however, is merely an afterthought; the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all."

wow i love it.

I initially had it on a purple shirt, but it made the overall feel of it darker than what I had intended, so I threw it on a happier color.
The book is even better than the movie! ;)
Thanks for all the comments guys, it means a lot!

One of the alleged answers is 'Poe wrote on both'. Ravens and Desks.

One of many of the alleged answers to the riddle that Carroll initially had no answer to. The beauty of the riddle is that its open to interpretation. All answers to the riddle are exactly right and wrong. I believe he just used the phrase to emphasize the non linear thought that went on between the characters in the mad tea party, to show the reader that it was indeed "mad", and that all logical reasoning was non existent.
`Your hair wants cutting,' said the Hatter. He had been looking at Alice for some time with great curiosity, and this was his first speech.
`You should learn not to make personal remarks,' Alice said with some severity; `its very rude.'
The Hatter opened his eyes very wide on hearing this; but all he said was, `Why is a raven like a writing-desk?'
`Come, we shall have some fun now!' thought Alice. `Im glad theyve begun asking riddles.--I believe I can guess that,' she added aloud.
`Do you mean that you think you can find out the answer to it?' said the March Hare.
`Exactly so,' said Alice.
`Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on.
`I do,' Alice hastily replied; `at least--at least I mean what I say--thats the same thing, you know.'
`Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter. `You might just as well say that "I see what I eat" is the same thing as "I eat what I see"!'

one of the first postmodern books. Postmodernism is (amongst many things) questions without answers- we see it a lot in films lately - Cloverfield, lost, donnie darko etc...there was a time when any film with out a conclusion or a resolution was a sure fire failure. Personally- I love that 'wha?' feeling at the end of a film....
lists are also postmordern- never in any time has an age of society held lists in such high regard...we love lists- now i have mentioned it...see how many you can spot..and make a list.

Its nice graphically on the shirt and I like the colors but I wouldve liked it more overall if you had used your own art instead of using the artwork out of the book.
warrenk said about 1 year ago
Love the graphic. Just trying to picture how that colour shirt would look on a human...
Much love.

I love the orginal illustrations and used them on purpose to achieve the same feel from the text and add my own interpretation to it, adding on to what was already there. Thankfully Im able to do this because the illustrations, being over 100 years old, are in public domain.
